Wimbledon 2010: Victor Hanescu Spits at the crowd – [Unseen Footage]


Four spectators have been arrested at Wimbledon after an incident involving Romanian player Victor Hanescu. TV pictures appeared to show Hanescu spitting towards fans after allegedly being verbally abused. He then walked off court during his third round match. Police said four youths were held under the Public Order Act after Hanescu had complained to officers. A Wimbledon spokesman said it was possible the allegation of spitting and the arrests were not related incidents. The controversy unfolded on Court 18 as Hanescu found himself 3-0 down in the fifth set against Germany’s Daniel Brands. “The initial thought was that the four people arrested were part of the same spitting incident,” said the Wimbledon official. “But the thinking now is that possibly they weren’t. That was just a random coincidence. Therefore this alleged spitting incident is directed at a different person or people who we don’t know.” A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to Court 18 following a disturbance. “Four youths were arrested.
