No this ideas looks far fetched, there is Nadal and I am not seeing Roger quitting early, Del Potro is good but he have to contend with two major heavy weights ( Roger and Rafa ) and what about the likes of Murray and Djoker ( I think they can beat Del Potro ). So it’s tough to make such a guess for the near future, although he is a good player and if he starts winning against Roger and Rafa occasionally then who knows he may well become the next big thing !!
I think not..
too many tough consistent players in front of him
in the near future I think that he will make it as high as 5 taking over Roddick.. or at best as high as 4..
Not me – he may be ranked at #4 in, perhaps, 2011.
Del Potro is very young (21 this month) so is two years younger than Rafa and 1-1/2 years younger than Novak. It’s likely, if Rafa doesn’t wear out his body, that he and Novak will get to #1 and #2 (alternately) when My Darling Roger’s tennis career begins to wane. Roger will be 30 in 2011 and, unless he plans to ‘do an Agassi’ (possible), he may consider retiring if his ranking drops to #3 (we’ll see what Mirka has to say!). If Andy Murray can manage to improve his offense, he’ll also be in the ‘mix’.
yes, he is playing well. His results in tournaments are getting better and better. He has made it to 3 QFs, (inc Australian Open) 3SFs, (including Wimbledon and US Open) and a final this year – thats impressive for a 20 year old. He does have a problem with fitness but it can be rectified (like it was with murray).
I think he could do it and reason is not only is Federer, as great as he is, he cant stay in top forever, and as he gets older might be a bit more difficult, though I always say age is nothing in sports. Then you have the over confident Murray who has yet to win a major and will hand around top 5 for a few years. Then you have Nadal, struggling with injuries due to hsi tremendous defense, and he cant play liek that for too long,a nd Djokovic who though steady, also appears a bit erratic. I dont see why Del Potro cant be #1. he has the total game, moves exceptionally well for a tall guy, serves huge and hits huge with that slender built. I think as Federer retires oen day, you will see a rotation at the top of the mens game. Federer is the last of the dominating players. too much talent out there, and way too much talent steadily rising, and no player will remain on top for too long a time after Roger. However again, JMDP can be one of them.
Well he does look promising, and I think he’s very talented not only for his age but for his height too. I have never seen a giant player reaching the No.1 in rankings, but at the moment he does seem one of the frontrunners to reach No.1 in the future if Federer retires,Nadal gets dogged by injuries,Murray continues choking in Grand Slams. But he does have a Djokovic to get past first, doesn’t he? And watch out for the resurgent Roddick too……..
I really have no idea though. But presently,it seems a little impossible due to the fierce competition in the Top 10. He isn’t that solid too compared to the Big Three or Four, plus one big problem exists for DelPo – He sucks major time on grass. His best result at Wimbledon has only been the 2nd round! That’s not the performance a No.1 should have at Wimbledon! So before he can be No.1,I would advise him to work major time on his game on grass.
he might does become n1 but I don’t think it will be in the near future, he is still young he has a lot to go through, he still lack some experience and some control on his balls but I’m sure he will do great after let us say 5 or 6 years because in these recent years there are a lot of other players who can be n1 in the near future like Nadal who is doing great coming back from an injury and there is of course Roger who I love and djoko and murray…
I think that delpotro will do great in the future but maybe not in the near future.
Nope…he is too tall

NOT ME!! Federer will always come out on top no matter what you think
Yes. I know that he is going to win the U.S Open this year but people don’t believe me.
Maybe not #1, I would not be shocked if he became #3!
