Since the Jehovah’s Witnesses aren’t allowed to play sports, then why is Serena Williams playing tennis?
Also, since they are considered nice people, why did Serena WIlliams acted up the way she did Sunday night?

is she Jehovah’s Witness?
because shes special
Hello Brethren,
Welcome to the hypocritical dump of a religion that is “The Truth”.
Good day.
I don’t believe her to be baptized and if she is, obviously she is not devout.
This is the first time I’ve heard that Serena is one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Be that as it may, your question is broad. JW’s most certainly play sports for enjoyment etc. If we’re talking about professonally, most choose to pursue their ministry rather than a career that will give them only temporary fulfillment.
Now, about being “allowed” … There’s no ban, sanction against or anything else that says a witness cannot play professional sports. It’s a personal choice.
(Yawn) I just knew that when Serena made an ass of herself on national TV that someone would jump on 7 million JWs because of the way she acted. FYI, neither Serena nor her sister is a baptized JW. So, what else is in the news?
BTW, who told you JWs are not allowed to play sports?
Does every single member of your religion act in accordance with your church’s teachings?
Serena Williams is one person. Her actions should not be generalized to be a reflection on the whole of the Jehovah’s Witness community.
I am a Christian, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Your question(s) raise a few points/issues.
“Since the Jehovah’s Witnesses aren’t allowed to play sports”??
Might I ask your basis for that assumption?? It isn’t accurate/truthful. I understand it’s easy to not know all the “in’s and out’s” of someone else’s faith, so thinking we don’t play sports, isn’t that big a deal.
“why is Serena Williams playing tennis”?
Firstly, I don’t know the young woman, nor do I know if she’s a Witness. As I pointed out before, there is no prohibition from Witnesses playing sports anyways.
“since they are considered nice people, why did Serena WIlliams acted up the way she did Sunday night”??
Firstly, it’s nice that you consider Witnesses “nice people” but even the nicest people “act up” from time to time.
That is a decision she made. JW’s are warned about the dangers of love of money and prestige and the focus of all of a person’s time on one thing without maintaining spiritual goals and study. They can be a big snare. If she feels she has the strength to do that that is her choice but she won’t get thrown out of the congregation for it. Some have gone to University and while there maintained study and prayer and to keep strong in such a nonspiritual environment they preach to others in school. It kept their heart guarded and once they have their diploma got a good job so they could spend more time in service. It’s really all a matter of what our focus and goals are in life.
The blow up, well she’ll have to deal with that one. I blow up too sometimes at irrelevant things and don’t handle situations properly all the time. Being mild is the best way to be but because of imperfection we all slip. It’s a matter of not be stubborn about it and admitting when we are wrong.
WOW!!! Talk about reaching.
I thought Muslims are a peaceful people. Why are they behind most terrorist attacks?
I thought Mormoms are not allowed to drink caffeine. Why do they drink it?
You still haven’t answered my question regarding an explanation of Rev 20:14! LOL Let’s see some of your great Bible knowledge come out. With 2 questions I have seen you post, neither is a good question and I have seen you put into a situation where you cannot answer any come backs! LOLOLOLOLOL
Also, I play sports. I didn’t know JW’s can’t play sports. Is that in the Bible?
This statement of yours:
“Since the Jehovah’s Witnesses aren’t allowed to play sports”.. would suggest that Jehovah’s Witnesses on a whole are Obese people?
Your Myopic view needs broadening.
We are allowed to play sport and she is not a Witness her mother is.
We play sports.
Tennis is a sport.
Humans have free will.
Serena is a human.
Serena chooses to play tennis.
Serena plays sports.
Whether she is a baptized Witness, I do not know. I do know that her mother said in the news that it was NOT a good reaction for her to have.
Serena is imperfect and will need to learn to control her emotions and reactions better, as we all are striving to do.
Baptized or not, that is what is expected of all of us.
In every day life, including in any sports we choose to play.
She isn’t baptized. She and her sister were studied with, but they are not dedicated.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are permitted to play recreational sports. Usually though at congregational picnics they tend not to keep scores when playing a sport for these can cause fights and contentions. Boxing is one sport they would not play.
With regards to playing sports professionally, there is no rule against it, only that they should limit their association with the people of the world…people alienated from God. Sports that give off an air of nationalism such as those that require playing against the world e.g, soccer, or those that require winners do a victory lap with the national flag of their country no true Jehovah’s Witness would participate in.
Witnesses are discouraged to pursue higher education or play professional sports. As for the Williams sisters, they are not baptized.
Venus and Serena Williams – Active – tennis
The Williams sisters dominated womens tennis, but became renowned for their tempers and immodest clothing on and off court. As of 2009, neither have been baptized.
“Raised as devout Jehovah’s Witnesses, both were home-schooled by their mother, and have received their high school diplomas. (http://www.williamssisters.org/sbio.html Oct 29 2007)
“The fact that Venus (and her sister Serena) are both active Jehovah’s Witnesses participating in the Olympics has provoked an interesting reaction from the organization. None at all. So while many Witnesses cheer for Venus, they know deep in their hearts that they would be subject to judicial procedures for much lesser offenses. And when Venus stood on the podium to receive the gold medal to the tune of the American national anthem, she became a different kind of pioneer than to which we are accustomed.” (http://www.freeminds.org/african/williams.htm Oct 30 2007)

We can play sports, be actors….etc. We also closely follow bible principles, but, we are not perfect, although from the worlds eyes we may look like it. Now Serena doesn’t appear to be following bible principles by acting like that. Do you think she devotes most of her time to Jehovah, or to her tennis?
Serena Williams is not one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
I play sports. Just not good or professionally.
I am one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
It has been know that serena williams once said she claimed she was a Jehovah’s witness. She may just be a believer and not a true devoted Christan. A real jehovah’s witness will never put their career over their ministry. And besides, as a Jehovah’s witness, we are not banned from anything. We can do anything we want. No one can stop us. Rather it be wrong or right, we have choices to make. We can serve god the way he wants, or not. True Jehovah’s witness know that wrong doing will bring serious consequences and we hold the bible as our up most authority for making our decisions. Besides, I play sports, but my priority isn’t that, its preaching the good news.
And I am a hunter ,skater.downhill skier,cross country skier,kayaker,canoe,river runner,–more
Rooker-She is not a witness and if she was,I wouldn’t blame her for much of the judging and racism-its a wonder she didn’t flatten buddy and some of them judges with a great BIG stick, would you blame her,yes and we are some nice is we . Rooker just where are you getting your info.? and for some hidden reason I believe you are a nice person too all jokes aside.
I love to play sports. I don’t care to watch them though. I want to be in on the action. I play baseball, basketball, soccer, and I bowl. I am looking forward to having a basketball match with my daughter in the new system when she is resurrected. We planned this even before she died. She won a scholarship to Wesleyan U from baseball. But never went. She wanted to go to a school closer to home. As for Serena, she isn’t a witness. Just like Michael Jackson was not a witness.
I am too old for sports now but I will be a ball of fire in the new system. LOL
“Since the Jehovah’s Witnesses aren’t allowed to play sports”
Really? Since when?
“then why is Serena Williams playing tennis?”
Please provide proof that either of the Williams sisters are actually Jehovah’s Witnesses. That involves more than just saying you are or being raised by parents who are Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“Also, since they are considered nice people, why did Serena WIlliams acted up the way she did Sunday night”
That behavior would indicate that she is not one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. You would have to ask her why she behaved in such a manner.
Of course, we’re allowed to play sports (I think you know that already)
What religion are you?
Should I judge you by the conduct of one person of your faith?
Serena Williams is not one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, I do believe her and her sister both were raised witnesses, but the conduct she performed the other night was not that of a witness.
And winesses don’t play professional sports because it takes too much time away from our worship and ministry. We do in fact play sports at get togethers and for recreation with our families.
The question starts off with a false premise, and ends with a false conclusion.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are “allowed” to play sports, but few do so professionally, because of the time and dedication required, and because of the violent or risky atmosphere of some sports.
The Williams sisters have long associated with the world, rather than with Jehovah’s Witnesses. It is questionable if they were ever baptized as Witnesses. Even so, in view of where they choose to associate, if they do something worldly, why should Jehovah’s Witnesses be asked to explain?
“Do not be fooled. Bad companions ruin good character.” (1 Corinthians 15:33, Good News Bible, published by the American Bible Society)
However, as the Bible also says:
“Whichever one of you has committed no sin may throw the first stone at her.” (John 8:7, Good News Bible, published by the American Bible Society)
And,
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and there is no truth in us.” (1 John 1:8, Good News Bible, published by the American Bible Society)
Serena Williams is an adult. What she did reflects on her, maybe on tennis, but not at all upon Jehovah’s Witnesses.
That’s because her actions are in violation of our standards, not in harmony with them.
Edit: No one is “raised” as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. People become Jehovah’s Witnesses only by making an informed, personal decision to serve Jehovah, and then symbolizing the decision by public water immersion.
Being raised by Witness parents, or studying with Witnesses, or even going out in the ministry, without baptism, does not make a person one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
she is not a Jehovah Witness and who said we can not play sports. Jehovah Witnesses play sports all the time.
Who told you that Jehovah’s Witnesses aren’t allowed to play sports? LOL
Bible doesn’t teach this, and we believe the Bible.
Rooker’s Argument in a Nutshell
Premise: Jehovah’s Witnesses are forbidden to play sports (apparently any sports).
Premise: Serena Williams is a baptized, active Witness in good standing.
Premise: Serena Williams “acted up” during a tennis match Sunday night after a terrible call was made against her.
Premise: Serena’s “acting up” makes her a “not nice” person.
Conclusion: None of Jehovah’s Witnesses are nice people.
Besides the fact that the first two premises are completely unproven and unsupported by any evidence whatsoever, the conclusion is also a non sequitur, i.e., does not follow the premises, even if we assume them to be true.
The most that could ever be gotten from this argument (even if we assumed the first two premises true, which they are obviously not) is that
Serena Williams is not a nice JW.
Aga’pe,
TOOPOO
*ouch*
heh had no idea that took place.
tsk tsk
what did she do?
since when she dictated how we act??
not allowed to play sports.
hmm strange i know some brothers do football, we play cricket, i enjoy tennis and volleyball. so your point is?
