I thought this was a superb match but really long as well. However, this match has nothing on the Isner/Mahut match!

As regards your comparison with women tennis in the 90’s and today’s, i would like to say that there is no match in that period time in which you’ll get to women hitting so hard and getting every ball back. Serena hit about 20 aces in this match and Elena was getting the return back with something on it.
Elena really played a wonderful match, but Serena hasn’t won multiple grand slams for nothing. Cream almost always rises to the top, and Serena’s superior service game and desire to win got her through this match.
this was a great match, that point at 3:31 was insane, if she would have lost that point I think dementieva would have won, and the volley serena pulled off at match point was so gutsy….GREAT MATCH SERENA!!!

Best women’s match of 2009, hands down. So rarely do we see matches like this deep into a Grand Slam anymore from the women, but this was high-quality ball striking and fierce competing from both ladies, just like we used to see in the ’90’s.

Serena played very well indeed, but I have to say that although Elena lost she played very well ans had Serena on the ropes numerous times. Thanks for posting this!
