I miss hingis game, she knows its almost impossible to defeat williams sister in hard hitting style, she just keep moving around the court a changing pace to take venus in a game she does not understand, skill and touch game, wta lost his way, ivanovic, jankovic, wozniacki, azarenka and the others they wont have a positive h2h against williams playing like they do know soory for my english

1997 was the beginning of the end of women’s tennis, and this U.S. Open confirmed it. Up to now, it’s still regressing.
There are two key things Hingis doesn’t possess to achieve more in big babes era: strong serve and strong forehand.
She doesn’t need superior athleticism like Williams sisters to win because her approach to the game is less physical. With strong serve and forehand, she might be able to save energy even more and not easily put under pressure everytime she engaged in a rally.
to FinalFan – Martina’s backhand is more alike Agassi’s and Nalbandian’s than the one of Mary!
this match is one of the best performances from Martina ever. Her forehand here is so much better than later in her career.
also i think she was never afraid of Vee, sho enjoyed playing her, like Seles, only Venus was more athletic and better mover than Monica. Martina used the pace of Venus so many times.
@FinalFan0 Hingis owned Pierce. Pierce had a few wins but on the whole was spanked by Martina. I like Pierce more than Hingis too but those are the facts. It is silly to talk about Pierce having the code on how to beat Hingis.

Oh come on! Hingis was not overpowered by Mary Pierce, they faced each other lots of time and Pierce couldn’t match Hingis groundstrokes EVEN with Pierce’s power (look back to 1997 AO. finals) Hingis always was a good defender and had a nice footwork, so it is quite ridiculous to say that she didnt have any physical condition to match those power hitters.
