Clijsters was easily leading 6–3, 4–1 only for Henin to win eight consecutive games to take the second set and lead 3–0 in the final set. Clijsters trailed 5–3 and saved two match points while down 15–40, only for her to come back and force a final set tie-break. She eventually won the match 6–3, 4–6, 7–6(6). This was Clijsters’ 36th career title.
At the Billie Jean King Cup, Clijsters defeated Ana Ivanovic 7-6 but fell in three sets to Venus Williams in the final. On March 10th she won her first Laureus World Sports Award, for her remarkable 2009 US OPEN Comeback.
