Do you agree that Roger Federer will become the “BEST” player ever to play the game of tennis?
Even if Roger Federer has not yet completed a career grandslam…for now, he is the only man in the history of the game to be in a “NINE” consecutive grandslam finals. Rod Laver and Don Budge both completed a career grandslam but did not made it to nine consecutive grandslam finals. Both of the two are alike, (Rod Laver & Don Budge) but Federer has no one besides him in his record!
I think he already is, but will have to do a couple more things which I believe he will to convince even the biggest skeptics and imbeciles that just can’t see it..
Roger is a young and very talented player… Although he still got a lot more years to prove to the world that he will be the best player ever, he had already proven that he is on that pace. He is on the likes of Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Bjon Borg.
What I like about Roger Federer is that he is a very down to earth guy. He loves life so much and his fans too. I know that he is a very simple guy and he just wants to play tennis and not spend the money that he earns from it.
I got his autographed picture in three months when i sent him a request. I know he is the one who does his autographs, that’s rare for a superstar…
I am a huge Rafa fan, but i do believe also that roger federer is what we can call an active “living legend” in the sense that he is still so far away from retiring and yet he is already a legend!
He is the best so far, only time will tell if he remains there or if he’s dethroned.
No! You answered your own question. Federer has not won the French. To be the best ever, you need to win all the Slams IMO. Laver won the grand slam twice! Fed will not win the French.
Sampras has 14 slams to Agassi’s 8, but I rate them as virtually equal because Agassi managed the career slam.
While many already consider Roger Federer the best, I believe he will need to at beat Sampras’ slam record or win the French for history to consider him the “Best” ever.
Though I didn’t see Rod Laver play he is still, in my opinion, the “Best” ever. Most people know that Rod Laver twice won the grand slam (all 4 slams in a year) but people forget (or are not aware) that he was not allowed to play in grand slams for several years in between his two grand slams as he turned pro and only amateurs were allowed to play in slams. If he had been allowed to play those years, few doubt that he would have the slams record (likely between 15 and 20).
Until Roger Federer gets at least 15 slams or wins the French, I still say Rod Laver is the “Best” ever.
Y’ve partly answered yr question y’self. Yes, the day Federer claims the lone missing Grand slam, i.e. French Open, he can truly claim to be one of the best players of tennis.
There are several players through history that have made such an impact that they could be considered the best ever. Pete Sampras, Rod Laver, Don Budge, Andre Agassi, Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors to name of few. All have their claim to fame.
The difference in these players and Roger is that they’ve completed their careers and we have the ability to look at those careers as a whole. Until Roger retires, any speculation that he’s THE best in history is only that…speculation. We’re predicting the future.
Here’s a thought; if Borg hadn’t retired at 25, would the 14 slams that Pete won be the record? Everyone likes to compare Pete and Roger. I think a more interesting comparison is who would be the better between Federer and Borg if the two retired at the same age, say 35? In fact, I think I’ll pose that question in Answers. Watch for it!
Is Roger on pace to be considered the greatest? ABSOLUTELY! Based on what he’s accomplished so far, could he be considered ONE of the greatest? SURE! Is he the greatest of all time? Let’s revisit that question in about 10 years.
i should really stop doing this but here’s what i think:
he really is the best player in these days according to statistics.a complete player, good control of every kind of shots, good strategy planner and incredible self confidence.
but the truth is that since 2003 untill nadal showed up nobody managed to reach his level of play.and the fact that he cannot win at roland garros, and that he needs 5 sets to win at wimbledon (and he is the ‘king’ on grass) prove that he becames vulnerable if you break his confidence.and it’s not only nadal who can beat federer, are many young good players that could end his dominance if they manage to improve their game.only time will tell!
he might be the only man in history to be in 9 consecutive grand slam finals and for sure he’s going to beat sampras record of 14 grand slams, but i don’t think that he’ll ever beat rod laver’s record (2 times all 4 grand slams,1962,1969).
my conclusion is that no matter how many titles he will win,no matter how many records he breaks,if you look in the past, you’ll see lots of really good players that desert to be name ‘the best ever’ more than federer does only because they had to fight for that title not just to get on the field.
and that’s the spirit of any competition!
he is already the best
I disagree on the judgment that he is the best ever. There is no way to tell who is the best because they all play in a different era against different quality opponents. Statistically wise, Federer will be the best ever, but I dont think he is the best quality wise. The talent pool nowaday is not as deep and talented as 10 years ago, except for a few such as Nadal, Jokovic (if I spell his name right), plus a very few. They are faster and stronger but that does not translated to quality. None of them are specialized in any particular skill, mainly baselining game. A decade ago, we have the baseliner monster Agassi, the serve/volley Boris Becker, Ivanisevic, ect, then Pete Sampras himself. What I am saying is there was more variety back in the day that present lot of problems for the number 1 player than now.
Yes I Do!!!!!
making history he will be
To make it short: He’s already THE BEST, and a living legend as many answered. He’s just brilliant!!!
I completely agree with you because every tournament he enters he is going for the records. I think that he is the first person to ever with Wimbledon the US Open for 4 consecutive years. He is only 25 years old and he has 11 Grand Slams. Pete Sampras won his 14th at the US Open and then he retired. I definitely think that Federer with beat this record; the only person that might stop is Nadal, but he isn’t cosistent in every Grand Slam. Roger Federer is he best player that has ever lived!!!
you have to give it to him that he is the tennis God! but lately he has been letting his guard down, you never know! he still hasn’t gotten past Nadal in the french!
agree
HE IS NOW.
Coz FEDERER has played in nine consecutive grand slam final,13 consecutive grand slam semi finals, won masters cup three times, won aussie open 07 without droping a single set,
won 36 consecutive sets in grand slams, won 5 straight wimbledon titles, only person to win wimbledon and us open 3 straight years
AND WILL WIN ROLAND GARROS NEXT YEAR
SO HE IS THE BEST…
I am a rafa fan,
Mr. Fed is getting old its all downhill from 25….
RAFA IS THE BEST ON CLAY MAN FEDERER WILL NEVER WIN ROLAND GARROS.
rafa is closer to federer on grass than he is to rafa on clay.
Pete Sampras at his best would demolish federer at his best.
so would agassi..
im sorry but there is barely anyone now 10 years ago there were so many.
