@nanananalalala For sure, del Potro was a big threat to Roger as well. Roger has multiple threats, though, unlike Nadal, who has so few. That’s why del Potro being out makes the tournament slightly less interesting.
I guess some people probably do switch between them, but I pay no attention to fair weather fans, and bandwagoners. Either way, it’s good tennis, so why let them spoil it?
@ConstantDistraction im glad for his fabulous learning curve lolll but if its a relief for anyone then its for federer cus he lost to him in a narrow 5 set match last year and beat him in the us open final. yeh thats ok, when nadal was nr 1 everyone was on the bandwagon now when he has to start again from scratch everyone is back on federers dick lolll. i guess some ppl just love winners.
@nanananalalala His learning curve on clay had been rather steep until the injury, and subsequent surgery. The fact is, there’s not many guys left that could threaten Nadal on this surface. del Potro represented one of the few remaining challenges.
It seems pointless to say that about hardcourt tournaments, because everyone knows Nadal has been losing those matches lately. Too easy of a prediction to make.
@ConstantDistraction no im not one of those arguers so dont worry about it. its just funny how a guy that has hardcourt as his best surface and NEVER has won something of relevance on clay is suddenly a BONAFIDE threat to the best claycourter of all times. so my advice to u is that if u already know hes gonna win it save ur threat theories for a tournament where they could actually MAKE SENSE like aus or us open cus there he got more than enough threats.
@nanananalalala Everybody knows Rafa’s gonna win it. If you’re looking for someone to argue with about him winning this year, you’re gonna have to work a little harder. Save the flame war for a real Nadal hater. Now that del Potro is out, it’s even more set in stone, but he was a contender, and a bona fide threat.
@ConstantDistraction u can disagree all u want, lets see how u disagree when rafa lifts the cup again loll. wow 3 titles on clay and a semifinal in rg?? do u even know what rafas resume is on clay? LOL my god ppl just lovvvve to hate nadal dont they. the only relief there was for types like u was that rafa was out for a year. but now hes back and its gonna be like 2008.
see ya at the french to begin with.
@nanananalalala Let’s not turn this into a Roger vs. Rafa debate. So played out. del Potro made it to the semis in Roland Garros last year before barely losing, and he’s won titles on clay before, so he’s done something on clay. Plus, he’s beaten Nadal the last three times they’ve played. Soderling didn’t seem all that impressive at first, either, but overpowered an admittedly weaker Nadal in 2009. So, I disagree. There was cause for relief, even if it was slight.
@ConstantDistraction nothing is a relief for nadal especially when it comes to clay. when u humiliate a 16 time slam champion in straight sets time after time, a new dude with one slam on hardcourt and nothing on clay is not gonna worry nadal. he has no injuries comin in to this french open so trust me those small names are no threats. the only thing the dude in the final against him as to worry about is that its not gonna be another 61 60 63
Interesting that rumors have been circulating about Djokovic being injured. Always wonder how people get wind of these things. Makes sense, though, considering allergies was the stated reason for retirement. So, not a threat to Nadal. del Potro’s actual injury was surely a relief to Nadal, as well. Even with the new strings, and subsequent added power, Juan Martin would have probably continued to overpower him.
So, remaining threats to Nadal:
Soderling again? Gulbis? Tsonga? Cilic?
