The Swiss national football team (also known as the Schweizer Nati in German, La Nati in French and Squadra nazionale in Italian) is the national football team of Switzerland and is controlled by the Swiss Football Association.
History
Its best performances in the World Cup have been reaching the quarter-finals three times, in 1934, 1938 and when the country hosted the event in 1954. Switzerland also won silver at the 1924 Olympics. The 2002 U-17 European Championship was won by the Nati.
In 2006, Switzerland set a FIFA World Cup record by being eliminated from the competition despite not conceding a goal, losing to Ukraine in a penalty shootout in the last 16, by failing to score a single penalty – becoming the first national team in Cup history to do this.
Switzerland co-hosted the Euro 2008 together with Austria and was therefore automatically qualified. Switzerland played all matches of group A in Basel. After losing the opening game 0–1 to the Czech Republic and the second game 1–2 against Turkey, they were already eliminated from their home tournament after only two games. Consolation came from the 2–0 victory over Portugal in the final group stage game.
World Cup 1954
It was one of the best performances of Switzerland in World Cup 1954 as they reached in the Quater finals for the 3rd time after 1934 and 1938. In one of the quarter-finals the World Cup holders Uruguay sent England out of the tournament, also by 4-2. Also Germany dispatched Yugoslavia 2-0, and Austria beat the host nation Switzerland in the game that saw the most goals in any World Cup match, 7-5.
The winners of the league are promoted to the Super League, and the bottom two teams are relegated to the 1. Liga. The second placed team enters a two-legged playoff against the 9th placed team in the Super League, the winner playing in the higher division next season.
Swiss Challenge league
The Swiss Challenge league was named Nationalliga B until summer 2003. In the past Liechtenstein’s FC Vaduz played in the Challenge League. They were promoted to the Super League following the 2007-08 season.
Ten Reasons Why Switzerland Could Win
1. History of the Greece-Switzerland games: 10 played, 5 wins for Switzerland, 3 draws, 2 wins for Greece.
2. History of the “duels” between Hitzfeld and Rehhagel: 9 wins for Hitzfeld, 6 for Rehhagel (Bundesliga games)
3. Swiss Strikers score more: N’Kufo has scored in all three previous games, Frei has scored against Latvia.
4. Swiss Determination – the win against Latvia might have given Switzerland new confidence.
5. Cheese fame – while Greece only has feta, Switzerland has Gruyère, Appenzeller, Emmentaler etc.
6. Swiss Drinks – Ovomaltine and Rivella are more renowned than Ouzo.
7. Swiss Mountains are Higher.
8. Sports Associations HQ are located in Switzerland – FIFA, UEFA, IOC.
9. The recent earthquake reached a magnitudo 5,1 Richter. Switzerland will try to do better in Piraeus.
10. Switzerland will win, because no other result is acceptable.
Now in World Cup 2010 South Africa, Switzerland has qualified again for the World Cup. The World Cup tickets of all matches are now available for sale. Football tickets of all the matches of World Cup are for sale at ticket4football.com, you can buy the Switzerland World Cup Tickets for its the upcoming matches and World Cup Football tickets of other teams on this website.

Compare and buy Wimbledon Championships tickets
The likeable Serbian, former world number one, has seen her drop out of the top 50 rankings in 2010 and has lost the media spotlight at the same time.
Injuries and a lack of confidence have caused the ‘Serbian Sweetheart’ to struggle on the tour and while her fellow countrywoman Jelena Jankovic has regained her form in this year with a big tournament win in Indian Wells, Ivanovic best tournament so far in 2010 was a semi-final appearance in a small tournament in Brisbane at the start of the year.
In fact Ana has failed to get past the second round in any other tournament and we are already nearly halfway through the tennis season. Hardly what we expect from a former world number one.
This week, though, we have seen a revival in the Serbians fortunes.
She has looked more at home on the clay of Rome than she has done in a long time and finally looks like she is on the right track to move back up the rankings. Clay is Ana’s favourite surface and it always amazes me how one win against a high ranked opponent can do wonders for a players confidence.
In the first round in Rome, Ivanovic was the underdog against Russian Elena Vesnina. The Russian has been in good form and had moved up to 32 in the world in recent weeks but with the pressure, for once, off the Serbians shoulders Ana let loose and thrashed her opponent 6-1 6-3 to set up a clash against rising star Victoria Azarenka.
Azarenka has struggled with injury in a few of her recent tournaments but would still have started the match as heavy favourite. Azarenka is one of the favourites for the French Open in a few weeks time.
Yet once again Ivanovic seemed to have rediscovered herself. Ana served five aces and showed battling qualities against her younger opponent that we haven’t seen for over a year. She saved six out of nine points and in the end won strongly 6-4 6-4. Next up – a clash with Elena Dementieva.
Dementieva had won their previous four matches against each other and such a strong clay court player would surely be able to stop any Ivanovic fairytale story with ease. Well, right from the start Elena couldn’t cope with the power and placement of her Serbian opponent.
Ivanovic was on fire. She blistered her way through the first set 6-1 allowing Dementieva to win only 44% of her first serves and incredibly none of her second serves. The second set was much closer between the players; both trading blows and winning each other serves.
Ivanovic’s won 75% of her first serves and this made the difference. The Serbian winning the second set tie-break 7-5 to move into the quarter finals of the tournament.
Ana continued her impressive form in the next round against yet another Russian powerhouse Nadia Petrova. The Serb breezed through the first set 6-2 and though she was made to work a touch harder in the second she still prevailed 7-5 for a straight sets victory.
She now faces Spain’s Maria Martinez in the last four with a possible all Serbia final on the horizon as Jelena Jankovic faces Serena Williams in the other semi-final.
However, whatever happens, Ana has made a start in her comeback campaign. Her performance in Rome should move the popular player back into the world’s top 50 and set her up for a good French Open campaign.
Perhaps winning her favourite Grand Slam may be too much to hope for from the 2008 champion yet Ana will be a dangerous floater in the draw and someone the top seeds will want to avoid in the early rounds.
Let’s hope this week is the start of a new era for the Serbian and she is able to regain her position within the world’s elite players, after all she is only still 22 years of age!
Popular as ever with male tennis fans, Ana is finally showing again what she can do on the court as well as off it.

Wimbledon Tennis Tickets ? Wimbledon four Slam Tournaments
Wimbledon Tennis Tickets
The four Slam tournaments, also called the Majors, are the most important tennis events of the year in terms of world ranking points, tradition, prize-money awarded, and public attention. They are:
• Australian Open
• French Open
• Wimbledon
• US Open
A singles player or doubles team that wins all four Slam tournaments in the same year is said to have achieved the Grand Slam. If the player or team wins all four consecutively, but not in the same calendar year, it is called a Non-Calendar Year Grand Slam. Winning all four at some point in a career, even if not consecutively, is referred to as a Career Grand Slam, while winning the four majors and a gold medal in tennis at the Summer Olympics has been called a Golden Slam since 1988, when Steffi Graf accomplished that feat in a single calendar year.
Winning all four Grand Slam tournaments during a career is termed a Career Grand Slam. Six men and nine women have accomplished this in singles play, but only three men (Rod Laver, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer) and five women (Margaret Court, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf and Serena Williams) have won all four Grand Slam singles tournaments at least once since the beginning of the open era.
A number of high-achievement players have failed to achieve the Career Grand Slam because they did not have long careers or because particular tournaments were ill-suited to their games. Björn Borg never won the US Open or the Australian Open. John McEnroe never won the Australian Open or the French Open.
Ken Rosewall, Guillermo Vilas, Ivan Lendl, Monica Seles, and Mats Wilander failed to win Wimbledon. John Newcombe, Arthur Ashe, Jimmy Connors, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg, Pete Sampras, Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport failed to win the French Open, Evonne Goolagong Cawley never won the US Open and Althea Gibson never won the Australian Open.
Venus Williams thus far has failed to win either the Australian Open or the French Open, Justine Henin hasn’t won Wimbledon ,Rafael Nadal has yet to win the US Open and Maria Sharapova has not yet won the French Open.
The following lists the players who have won all four Grand Slam singles tournaments. The year in which they won their first Grand Slam singles tournament is listed first. The tournaments (or years) needed to complete their first Career Grand Slam were won are then listed. The ages of the players when their Career Grand Slam was completed are shown in square brackets.
• Gigi Fernández: partnering Mary Joe Fernandez won the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Gold Medal (Doubles); partnering Robin White to win the 1988 US Open; partnering Jana Novotná to win the 1991 French Open; and partnering Natasha Zvereva to win the 1992 Wimbledon Tennis and the 1993 Australian Open.
• Daniel Nestor (2000-02-04-07-08): Partnering Sebastien Lareau to win the 2000 Olympic Gold Medal (Doubles); partnering Mark Knowles to win the 2002 Australian Open, the 2004 US Open and the 2007 French Open; partnering Nenad Zimonjić to win the 2008 Wimbledon Tennis.
• Roger Federer: Partnering Stanislas Wawrinka won the Beijing 2008 Olympic Gold medal next to his (singles) Career Grand Slam.
• Serena Williams: Partnering Venus Williams won the Australian Open 2003, French Open 2002, Wimbledon 2002, US Open 1999, Olympic Gold Medal 2000 and 2008 (Women’s Doubles).

Coach of Milan, Leonardo also expressed his contentment and happiness by stating, “They played better in the first half, created spaces and chances. We were too deep. To be honest, we feel a bit of regret, as I felt we could get the three points and strike them at the right time. I’m happy with the way the squad did it tonight.”

2010 Champions League Tickets ? Pepe Reina feeling bad with Liverpool?s Performance
During the last Champions League match, Liverpool has successfully managed to save a draw against the mighty Lyon. Their current position in European Competition is simply not satisfying and worthwhile. Pepe Reina, the Goalkeeper, is unhappy with the performance of his team and considers it quite ‘disgraceful’ and his team has to rely over the performance of others.
http:// www.championsleagueticketshop.com
The disappointed Goal keeper also expressed his views fairly, “We have got two games to go and disgracefully we are not depending on ourselves; we need Lyon to get something in Fiorencia. Our priority is to win our two games that remain and we will keep trying. Miracles? They happen, particularly at Liverpool.”
Lyon is undoubtedly the strongest and finest team, whereas Fiorentina comprises of immensely talented players, such as Gilardino and Vargas. Thus, the squad of Benitez has tough chances to survive. Well, the coming time will be quite crucial for Reina and his teammates.

U.S. Open Tennis Tickets ? Andy Roddick Poised for a Comeback
With the weather warming up this spring, eyes in the sporting world began to shift to tennis, and more specifically the U.S. Open. The usual suspects are among the top contenders for the title, but one of the top names in tennis is pushing toward a comeback: American Andy Roddick. Roddick showed his potential to be a top contender during this year’s Grand Slam when he won the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla. in early April. To get there, he topped perennial great Rafael Nadal in the semifinals before beating Tomas Berdych.
The Grand Slam kicked off with the Australian Open in January, which saw Murray making it all the way to the quarterfinals before losing to Marin Cilic. The Australian Open was won by Roger Federer, with Andy Murray as the runner-up. On the women’s side, it was Serena Williams who walked away with the championship, topping Justine Henin. The appearance marked Roddick’s ninth in the Australian Open. He has never won the tournament, but he has finished in the semifinals four times (2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009).
Roddick will be looking at the French Open next, which kicks off at the end of May. Roddick hasn’t done especially well in the French Open in the past, never finishing better than the fourth round. Roger Federer is the defending champion, defeating Robin Söderling. After the French Open, the next big tournament in tennis is the Wimbledon Championship in late June and early July in London. Roddick will be out for revenge this Wimbledon, as he had an impressive run to the finals in 2009 only to lose to Roger Federer.
The Grand Slam wraps up with the 2010 U.S. Open from Aug. 30 to Sept. 12 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium at the Billy Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. Roddick didn’t have a very successful run in 2009, losing in the third round. The 2009 Finals were exciting as Juan Martin del Potro stole the title from Roger Federer. Had he won, it would have marked the sixth straight U.S. Open championship for Federer. Roddick was in the finals in 2006 and he won the U.S. Open in 2003.
Fans who want to be a part of this year’s excitement can find <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/us-open-tennis-tickets/”>U.S. Open Tennis tickets</a> at <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/”>StubHub.com</a>. In the current Men’s Tennis ATP Rankings, Roddick is ranked seventh. He is behind Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Juan Marin del Porto and Nikolay Davydenko. Roddick has time to make his way up the rankings before the start of the U.S. Open. Roddick’s success in 2010 signals that his career is truly on an upswing.
Roddick was also focused on giving back during the recent Sony Ericsson Open. He was part of a celebrity doubles exhibition, raising money to help victims of the Chilean earthquake. It was played in two sets, with Chilean Fernando Gonzalez, Jim Courier and Gustavo Kuerten also partaking in the charity event. Thousands of fans were in attendance, and the event raised $125,000.

Wimbledon Tennis Tickets – Wimbledon Tennis Tickets 2010 For Uk Fans
The Championships, Wimbledon Tennis Tickets , or simply Wimbledon, is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and is generally considered the most prestigious.Wimbledon Tennis has been held at the All England Club in the London suburb of Wimbledon Tennis since 1877. It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, and the only one still played on the game’s original surface, grass, which gave the game of lawn tennis its name.
The tournament takes place over two weeks in late June and early July, culminating with the ladies’ and gentlemen’s singles final, scheduled respectively for the second Saturday and Sunday. Each year, five major events are contested, as well as four junior events and four invitational events.
The hard court Australian Open and clay court French Open precede Wimbledon Tennis in the calendar year. The hard court US Open follows. For men, the grass court Queen’s Club Championships, also in London, the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany, and the Ordina Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands are popular warm up tournaments for Wimbledon Tennis. For women, there are warm-up tournaments in Birmingham and Eastbourne.
Wimbledon Tennis traditions include the eating of strawberries and cream, drinking Pimms spritzers, royal patronage, and a strict dress code for competitors. In 2009, Wimbledon’s Centre Court was fitted with a retractable roof to insure against the possibility of rain delays interrupting Centre Court matches during the tournament.
The All England Lawn Wimbledon Tennis and Croquet Club is a private club founded in 1868, originally as ‘The All England Croquet Club’. Its first ground was situated off Worple Road, Wimbledon.
In 1875, lawn tennis, a game devised by Major Walter Clopton Wingfield a year or so earlier and originally called ‘Sphairistike’, was added to the activities of the club. In the spring of 1877, the club was re-titled ‘The All England Croquet and Lawn Wimbledon Tennis Club’ and signalled its change of name by instituting the first Lawn Wimbledon Tennis Championship. A new code of laws (replacing the code until then administered by the Marylebone Cricket Club) was drawn up for the event. Today’s rules are similar except for details such as the height of the net and posts and the distance of the service line from the net.
The lawns at the ground were arranged so that the principal court was located in the middle with the others arranged around it; hence the title ‘Centre Court’, which was retained when the Club moved in 1922 to the present site in Church Road, although not a true description of its location. However, in 1980 four new courts were brought into commission on the north side of the ground, which meant the Centre Court was once more correctly defined. The opening of the new No. 1 Court in 1997 emphasised the description.
By 1882, activity at the club was almost exclusively confined to lawn Wimbledon tennis and that year the word ‘croquet’ was dropped from the title. However, for sentimental reasons, it was restored in 1889 and since then the title has remained The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
In 1884, the All England Club added ladies’ singles and gentlemen’s doubles. Ladies’ doubles and mixed doubles were added in 1913. Until 1922, the reigning champion had to play only in the final, against whoever had won through to challenge him. As with the other three Grand Slam events, Wimbledon Tennis was contested by top-ranked amateur players until the advent of the open era in tennis in 1968.

US Open Tennis Tickets – Kim Clijsters Dominates WTA, Eyes US Open
Â
Don’t let Kim Clijsters’ current (as of April 6, 2010) No. 10 WTA ranking fool you. The Belgian netter is the comeback queen of the year, and she’s done nothing but dominate the court since her return to the world of tennis in 2009. Clijsters recently cemented her status as a Top 10 player on the women’s circuit after defeating Venus Williams 6-2, 6-1 for the title at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, and she won’t be completely satisfied until her name again stands proud at No. 1 on the WTA.
Clijsters came steamrolling into 2010 like she’d never left the game of tennis, winning the Brisbane International tournament in Australia in January before experiencing some minor bumps throughout the rest of the winter (see: Indian Wells). When the Sony Ericsson Open rolled around in late March, however, Clijsters readjusted her focus, and after plowing through opponents Petra Kvitova, Shahar Pe’er, Victoria Azarenka, Samantha Stosur and longtime rival Justin Henin she battled world No. 3 Venus Williams for the title. It took just 58 minutes to defeat Williams in two sets, and with the huge victory came a No. 10 world ranking, taking Kim Clijsters one step closer to the top.
While Clijsters spends the next few months gearing up for this summer’s slew of tournaments, the one she’s really got her eyes on is the US Open, where she will defend her 2009 title this year. Clijsters’ 2009 US Open win was a landmark in the “second career” of the Belgian’s tennis years. In 2009, Clijsters came into the US Open after being only three tournaments deep out of a two-year retirement. She exceeded any and all expectations she set for herself in the Grand Slam tournament, defeating Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki 7-5, 6-3 in the finals to win the championship.
Pounding an overhead winner and dropping to her knees after taking match point against Wozniacki, Clijsters snatched her second Grand Slam title in the ’09 US Open, telling tournament press afterwards, “I can’t believe this happened because it still seems so surreal that, in my third tournament back won my second Grand Slam. Because it wasn’t in the plan. I just wanted to come here and get a feel for it all over again, play a Grand Slam so the start to the next year I didn’t have to go through all the new experiences over.”
Kim Clijsters came back to the game of tennis with flying colors last fall, and this year she’ll return to New York for the 2010 US Open with hopes of defending her Grand Slam title. Clijsters’ return to the game is sure to sell <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/us-open-tennis-tickets/”>US Open tennis tickets</a> like never before, and this August the 26-year-old tennis star will be back on the hard court to pack the one-two punch on the WTA.
Until then, Clijsters will continue to battle her fiercest competitors from the baseline, competing in this summer’s French Open and Wimbledon Grand Slams before finally competing in the US Open in late August. Clijsters has already beaten some of the world’s top women’s players, and she’ll be soaring into this fall with high hopes at another Grand Slam title.

U.S. Open Tennis Tickets – Andy Roddick Poised for a Comeback

Tennis Tickets – Rafael Nadal Wins at Monte-Carlo, Eyes French Open
Rafael Nadal is back in a big way, and he’s not letting a nagging injury detract him from back-to-back wins in France. The 23-year-old Spaniard captured his first win in almost a year during the second week in April, when he defeated Fernando Verdasco 6-0, 6-1 at the Monte-Carlo Masters. Nadal is now focusing on this month’s French Open to reclaim his throne at the top of the ATP.
Nadal sat out the recent Barcelona Open BancSabadell and let his ranking drop before coming back to the top of dominance at Rome, and he’ll look forward to another win in France this spring as he travels to Paris’ State Roland Garros. Nadal looks fierce on clay so far this season and has already accrued four career championships at the French Open, making him a top contender for the title again this year. On-court nemesis Roger Federer snatched the Grand Slam title from under him last year, but this year’s finals match could come down to yet another Nadal-Federer showdown.
Spectators with <a rel=”nofollow”
onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/tennis-tickets/”>tennis tickets</a> to the 2010 French Open are salivating at the thought of yet another Nadal-Federer final, and with the two tennis stars neck-and-neck going into this part of the season, it’s very plausible that they will meet each other on the court during the finals in early June.
As of now, Federer leads the ATP in men’s singles rankings, while Rafa takes a comfortable role at No. 3 (and rising). Nadal is considered one of the world’s best (if not the best) players on clay courts, however, and recent wins at the Monte-Carlo Masters and Rome Masters have helped his stock rise going into the French Open.
After Nadal’s recent win over Verdasco at the Monte-Carlo Masters, he spoke to the New York Times about his return to the court, saying, “It was emotional for me today; it was my best week for a long time.” The Spanish netter’s win at Monte-Carlo was his sixth consecutive win there, also marking the first time a player has won six of the same tournaments in a row since 1968.
While he’s finally getting back into the swing of things, Rafael Nadal’s ascent to the top of the ATP will not come without a fight. Roger Federer, currently the world No. 1, is bent on staying at the top of the circuit, and he’s searching for his second straight win at the French Open. Last year, Federer won the Grand Slam after beating Robin Soderling 6-1, 7-6(1), 6-4 in the finals, winning the hardware while Nadal faced an early exit in the fourth round, when he was beat by Soderling 6-2, 6-7(2), 6-4, 7-6(2).
As the end of May draws nearer, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will make their way to France to vie for yet another French Open title. Only Novak Djokovic stands between the two great superpowers as the Open gets well underway, and the top ATP rankings could dramatically change over the next few weeks with the action in Roland Garros. Tennis fans are snapping up tickets to the French Open from <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/”>StubHub</a> in the weeks prior to the Grand Slam tournament, and anything could happen as the biggest names in tennis take to the net during the 2010 French Open.

Wimbledon Tennis Tickets – Wimbledon four Slam Tournaments
Wimbledon Tennis Tickets
The four Slam tournaments, also called the Majors, are the most important tennis events of the year in terms of world ranking points, tradition, prize-money awarded, and public attention. They are:
â¢Â   Australian Open
â¢Â   French Open
â¢Â   Wimbledon
â¢Â   US Open
The ages of the players when their Career Grand Slam was completed are shown in square brackets.
â¢Â Gigi Fernández: partnering Mary Joe Fernandez won the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Gold Medal (Doubles); partnering Robin White to win the 1988 US Open; partnering Jana Novotná to win the 1991 French Open; and partnering Natasha Zvereva to win the 1992 Wimbledon Tennis and the 1993 Australian Open.
â¢Â Daniel Nestor (2000-02-04-07-08): Partnering Sebastien Lareau to win the 2000 Olympic Gold Medal (Doubles); partnering Mark Knowles to win the 2002 Australian Open, the 2004 US Open and the 2007 French Open; partnering Nenad ZimonjiÄ to win the 2008 Wimbledon Tennis.
â¢Â Roger Federer: Partnering Stanislas Wawrinka won the Beijing 2008 Olympic Gold medal next to his (singles) Career Grand Slam.
â¢Â Serena Williams: Partnering Venus Williams won the Australian Open 2003, French Open 2002, Wimbledon 2002, US Open 1999, Olympic Gold Medal 2000 and 2008 (Women’s Doubles).
