Are Venus and Serena Williams the only two sisters to ever play each other at Wimbledon?

I know they’ve played each other in the past, but I don’t know if there were any other sisters (or brothers) that have ever played each other at Wimbledon at the finals.

Wilson K Blade Rackets Help Williams Sisters Capture French Open Doubles Title and #1 Ranking

This just in from Wilson …….

Serena and Venus Williams have made tennis history once again. The sisters earned the Roland Garros doubles title by rolling over the team of Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik in two sets 6-2, 6-3, with their K Blade Team rackets. It’s their second French Open title together; part of their collection of an astonishing twelve Grand Slam women’s doubles championships.

Serena and Venus are now the #1 doubles team in the world for the first time in their careers and one of only five teams to complete a career doubles Grand Slam (2001/2003/2009 Australian Open, 1999/2010 Roland Garros, 2000/2002/2008 Wimbledon, 1999 US Open)

Additionally, they represent the only women’s doubles team to complete a career Golden Slam, adding two Olympic doubles gold medals (2000 Sydney and 2008 Beijing ) to their career Grand Slam. The sisters have claimed four Grand Slam doubles titles in a row, in addition to Stanford in 2009 and the 2010 Madrid Open. It’s safe to say they are the greatest doubles pairing since the days of Martina Hingis and Jana Novotna.

In rising to No.1 in the doubles rankings, Serena Williams joins an elite group of just six players who have been ranked at the top in both singles and doubles at the same time, alongside Martina Navratilova, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport and Kim Clijsters.

“To be #1 in the world in both singles and doubles is a great accomplishment,” Serena said after claiming the French Open doubles title. Wilson is proud to support the Williams sisters as they continue to pursuit to stay at the top.

Do you hope that white Kim Clijsters beats the black sisters at the Australian Open?

Just like she did at the US Open? I hope so. I would have like her and Lindsay Davenport to make the final. Lindsay’s not playing this year, but she will next year. I hope Kim wins this year.

Williams Sisters Face Off at Wimbledon

Tennis pro sisters Venus and Serena Williams went head-to-head in the final Wimbledon Tennis Championship match. The win was Venus’ fifth Wimbledon Championship title.

“Winning this tournament so many times puts you in the stratosphere,” she said. Venus’ dream is to pass Martina Navratilova’s record of nine championships in a row, but she says, “Her career spanned three decades and I’m not sure if I have that much time. Tennis is so much different now.”

Serena was in the lead 4-2 in the first set. “I just lost rhythm at the end of the first set and made a lot of errors,” she explained after the match. “I didn’t feel tight but I couldn’t get the balls in and nothing I was doing seemed to work.” The loss for Serena was her first in a Grand Slam final since 2001.

The sisters say they have to look at each other as opponents, not sisters, on the court. Venus said, “I think I was a little bit more relaxed than her.”

The windy day added to the stress of the match. Venus added, “I think the level of play was really high. I think a lot of the times one of us was overpowering the other. In between, we had some really competitive rallies and intense points where one player would come back and take the point when it looked like the other player was going to win.”

Nadal and Federer Once Again at Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal won the men’s Wimbledon Tennis Championship. The win places Nadal as the first man since Bjorn Borg to win both the French Open and Wimbledon Championships back to back. The Majorcan native said, “It is a dream to play on this court, my favorite tournament, but to win, I never imagined.” His parents, coach and uncle were there to support him and cheer him on.

A win for Federer would have been his sixth consecutive Wimbledon Championship title. “I tried everything, got a little late, but look, Rafa is a deserving champion. He just played fantastic,” Federer said. He went on to say, “The rain didn’t make it any easier, but you have to expect the worst, and he’s the worst opponent on the best court. It’s a pity I couldn’t win it, but I’ll be back next year.”

Upon entering the court, both men were met with fans chanting their names. The championship title was just within reach for one of them. A very close match ensued until, at 7-7, the match was locked. Finally Nadal served and forced a forehand swing by Federer. He hit the net and the championship title went to Nadal.

Laura Robson Wins Girls Wimbledon Championship

Fourteen-year-old Laura Robson is the first Brit to win the Girls Wimbledon Championship since 1984. She admitted being very nervous when she walked out onto the court.

She said, “I thought I was going to be sick when I walked on the court, as there were so many people watching.” The win gives her the opportunity for a wildcard that will allow her to enter next year’s senior event.

Thailand native, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn met Robson on the court with full confidence and demeanor of a winner. Both girls had worked long and hard to achieve the championship.

Australian Open- Djokovic, Federer and the Williams Sisters move to the Third Round

Novak Djokovic had a difficult match against the Swiss Marco Chiudinelli; the match was taken to four sets, with the Serb committing 9 double-faults and 52 unforced errors before he was finally able to take victory 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3. Djokovic said after the match that he was impressed by Chiudinelli’s skill against him. It was the Swiss player’s first Australian Open. “I was well aware of his quality, and he played extremely well, especially in the first set and the start of the second,” Djokovic said. “I was very lucky to get two sets to one up.” The win was also an especially sweet one. Said Djokovic: “This court is most special because I won my only Grand Slam here.” Djokovic won his first Grand Slam title in the 2008 Australian Open, defeating Roger Federer in the semifinals and winning the title at the end. His preparation for this year’s tournament has been very intense indeed. Roger Federer, world No. 1, also defeated his opponent, Victor Hanescu from Romania, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 , in a match that didn’t seem a challenge for the top player. He was able to break Hanescu’s serve several times and took advantage of the Romanian’s errors to win in straight sets, in a match very different from the one he had on Tuesday against Andreev. At the end of the match Roger discovered that Prince William of England had attended the match, sitting in the VIP area. “Your Royal Highness, welcome to the world of tennis. Thanks for coming,” Federer said. The last time that Federer played in the Rod Laver Arena was last year in the final, when he left with tears in his eyes after being defeated by Rafael Nadal. Roger has won the Australian Open on three occasions and has a 49-7 record at Melbourne Park. For the female tennis stars, the Williams sisters advanced to the third round. Both won their respective matches: Serena, who is the defending champion of the tournament, beat Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-1; Venus defeated the Austrian Sybille Bammer 6-2, 7-5. Venus first played on a very warm day at Melbourne; she played for an hour and a half against a left-hander, the second she has faced in the tournament. She said she was unused to playing against a left-hander, but welcomed – and rose to – the challenge. Serena played her second match of the tournament and finished in less than an hour. She appeared to be in very good shape and complete 4 of 11 break point chances. She has been winning every odd-numbered year since 2003, when she beat her sister Venus in the finals; since then, Venus hasn’t been able to advance from the fourth round to take the Australian Open. Venus has, however, won seven Grand Slam titles in her career. This year there is no chance of seeing a Williams final, although the sisters, in the same group, will have to face each other before then if both continue forward. The showdown may occur in the quarterfinals, after which only the best continue for the title.
