Australian Open- Nadal and Del Potro continue to the third run; Henin?s return has been amazing

Wednesday was a great day for Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro, both playing in the second round of the Australian Open. Both finished with victories over their opponents, Lukas Lacko and James Blake, respectively. Rafa seemed to have control of the match from the beginning. Lacko committed 53 unforced errors; he managed to save two of three match points in the third set when the score was 5-2, but he then lost the set and so the match in three straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2. “I played a serious match. I think I played the match what I need to play,” said Nadal, who is No. 2 in the World Ranking. “I was playing, moving well in the beginning without mistakes, having with the control of the ball.” Nadal will be facing Philipp Kohlschreiber for the third round of the tournament. Juan Martin del Potro, on the other hand, had a very difficult match against the American, James Blake. The match lasted more than four hours before the Argentine finally won it, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 5-7, 6-3, 10-8. Neither of the players was able to break serve in the first four sets. Del Potro finally had an opportunity in the fifth set at 6-5 but Blake broke him back immediately when the Argentine committed 2 unforced errors. Del Potro then demonstrated his abilities, breaking Blake when they were 9-8 to serve back again and finish the set with a big serve for his first match point. It was terrible for the American, who made an incredible effort against del Potro; Blake may have deserved a win as much as did his opponent, but in the end his mistakes cost him the match. On the women’s side, Justine Henin is making a great comeback after being off of the tennis courts for more than one year. She defeated Elena Dementieva 7-5, 7-6 (6) and moved into the third round of the Australian Open, demonstrating that she still is one of the best tennis players in the world. It was a close match for both players, but the difference came in the tiebreak, when Henin was able to win the last three points. Henin said later that the game reminded her of the match she lost against Clijsters two weeks ago in the Brisbane International Final, the first tournament in which she participated after returning from retirement. “I lived so much emotion on the court this evening. It was magical,” she said of her match against Dementieva. “I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to do it, but it was the kind of situation I needed to refind my confidence.” Hennin later stated that Clijsters was the one who inspired her to comeback; Clijsters retired for three years, was married, and had a baby before she decided to return. She has demonstrated that she is still at the top level of major tennis. Hennin has no spot in the world rankings right now, but entered into the Australian Open with a wild card, just as Clijsters did in the US Open. The 27-year-old will have to face Russian No. 27 Alisa Kleybanova in the third round of the tournament.
