Can Roger Federer Regain the number 1 spot soon in the rankings?
If he wins the Australian Open and carries on winning?
Do you think Roger Federer will still be number one by year’s end?
Why or why not? I personally think he will because Djokovic still doesn’t have the strength or focus to play top tennis match after match and eventually burns out as he did at the end of last year. Rafa has a ton of points to defend on clay and at Wimbledon. And remember, though Roger lost badly in Indian Wells and Miami, he stilled GAINED points at these events. He could do the same in Monte Carlo and Rome if he merely makes it to the latter rounds. What do you think?
When can Roger Federer become number 1 again in the ATP rankings?
And how is the point scoring system calculated after a Grand Slam?
Is Roger Federer net play weak for a number one ?
Roger is my preferred tennis player currently professional active and one of my preferred ever. However it does not seem to me he has a good percentage of success when going to net, the percentage he would deserve the greatest of all time. Today, I was watching a ’89 Davis match between Becker and Edberg and their net playing was terrific even though they were playing with modern racquets and balls was hit with high power and speed. Is there a lack of good net players in modern tennis ?

Ana Ivanovic – the New Wta World Number One
So Paris has a new queen and her name is Ana Ivanovic; her tennis history begins in Belgrade, Serbia where she was born 20-years agoâ¦her early days in the sport were very difficult due to the constant war issues her country was going through but none of this could stop Ana from achieving her dream to become a professional tennis player. By the age of 5 she was already practicing tennis and some years later in 2004 Ana made her debut at the Junior Wimbledon tournament where she caught the attention of many in the tennis world.
As she moved forward Ana began to show her natural talent as she overcame players such Venus Williams, Tatiana Golovin, Amelie Mauresmo and Nadia Petrova; by the end of 2005 Ana had reached the 16th position in the WTA world ranking. But it was in 2007 when Ana really had her breakthrough as she had an excellent performance at the Australian Open followed by her first Tier I clay court title at the Qatar Telecom German Open and she reached her very first Grand Slam final at the French Open where she played the recently retired Justin Henin who defeated Ana by 6â1, 6â2 and such performance catapulted her to the world number four position by the end of 2007.
Then Ana began this year by participating in several events as she approached the Australian Grand Slam where she reached the finals and played Maria Sharapova who defeated Ana in a very close match; both women knew this to be of great importance for their careers as it would have been Anaâs first Grand Slam title and for Sharapova her true come back to the number one position which she was not able to retain for long as the Belgium Justin Henin was number one for more than 140 weeks.Â
Nevertheless; Justinâs announces her sudden retirement and Sharapova becomes the worldâs number one tennis player but again her days were already counted as Ana fought her way to the finals at the recent Roland Garros where she defeated Dinara Safina in three sets. This was a match that many will call magical as both players Ana and Dinara produced the best tennis we could have expected. At the same time we see how Ana keeps growing strong and her game unfolds smooth in all surfaces; but it was Paris that delivered Anaâs childhood dream a very well deserved one by the way.
Now that Ana is at the top there is obviously more pressure on her and her game style as she will need to prove she is good on all surfacesâ¦and this is how she approaches Wimbledon as she states “For sure, I want to go to Wimbledon and win the title, because every tournament you play you want to win,” Ivanovic said. “Obviously, now a lot of players will play their best tennis against me. But I still think I have a good chance. I’ve been working hard. So now I will relax a little bit, recover and also prepare on the grass before Eastbourne and Wimbledonâ.
Despite the very demanding schedule tennis players such as Ana have to cope withâ¦it is real pleasure to see Ana behaving on and off court as she makes the game look so easy while she tries to live a normal life doing what it is very evident that she adores which is to play good tennis and be the best she can.

US Open Updates – Serena Claims Title While World Number One Nadal Falls
And the action just does not stop at Flushing Meadows where the last players standing in the female tournament, the American Serena Williams and the Serbian Jelena Jankovic met last night after almost two weeks of consecutive games, each player had to face six different rivals in order to arrive to the Grand Slam final which was played at the Arthur Ashley stadium.
It was an incredible night as the opening match was – part two – of the previous evening encounter between the Spaniard world number one, Rafa Nadal and the Scott Andy Murray which had been called off due to bad weather. This was indeed a night to remember not just for us the tennis fans but for the players, for the 23-year-old Serbian this became her maiden Grand Slam final and despite her hard work to take the title her nerves betrayed her game more than once.
On the other hand, everyoneâs favourite the youngest Williamsâ sister imposed herself on the court taking the two sets by 6-4 and 7-5 in a flawless fashion that impressed us very much. Nevertheless, she had to work her way to the trophy as Jankovic did not give in so easily, both players shared multiple rallies but Serenaâs seniority quickly showed as her serve and forehand became better and better.
In approximately two hours and four minutes Serena Williams became the 2008 US Open Grand Slam winner and the new WTA world number one female tennis player while collecting USD 1.5 million dollars. Runner up Jankovic remains in the second position, and besides her not so bad check of USD 750,000 Jelena also won the crowd at Flushing Meadows as she received standing ovations for her game, humble speech and the support given to her American rival.
The last game of the menâs semi final between Nadal and sixth seeded Andy Murray which began Saturday at the Louis Armstrong court ended with the Britonâs victory in four sets. For many of us, one of the major upsets of the tournament mainly after the way Nadal had played at previous Grand Slams such as the French Open, Wimbledon and even the Olympics. There is no doubt Murray was superior, he knew exactly what to do and he wisely nailed the first two sets with a blast of aces while the Spaniard geared up a bit during the third and by the fourth Murray just sealed the game for his first Grand Slam final.
The 2008 ATP Tour has been Nadalâs golden year and we believe he deserves to be in the number one position, but his task is tough as being number one means to proof himself constantly. Now, that a new era in the sport has began with new talent growing we will see how the seasonâs ends and how the pieces move in the world rankings.Â
