Are Rafael Nadal’s physical problems a result of pushing his body too far?

Nadal plays a hard paced physical game and is lauded for his seemingly infinite energy and power. His powerfullly muscled phyique is evidence of his dedication to his training. But are his recent fitness and knee problems a result of pushing too far with regard to physical fitness? Were they obvious potential problems due to the nature of his game or just pure bad luck?

Rafael Nadal’s Great Accomplishment

Rafael Nadal, world’s top ranking professional, has climbed a new summit by becoming the second tennis professional player in the new era to have completed the career Grand Slam.

In professional tennis circuit, four major tournaments held in a year assume prime importance. They are the Australian Open tournament, the French Open tournament, the Wimbledon and the US Open tournament. Each tournament has its own special features. The Australian Open and the US Open tournaments are played in hard courts, the French Open tournament is played in clay court and the Wimbledon tournament is played on a grass surface.

A player winning all the four titles will be called as a Grand Slam winner. Career Grand Slam is a step further than Grand Slam. In addition to winning these four tournaments, player should have won the Gold Medal in Olympic Games featuring Tennis.

After winning the US Open tournament on September 12, 2010, Rafael Nadal achieved this rare feat of Career Grand Slam, having won all the four major tournaments in addition to the gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics tournament. The only other player to have achieved this coveted feat is Andre Agassi of the US.

Rafael Nadal, a Spanish professional player, has achieved many laurels in the young age of 24 years. He has won French Open Titles for five successive years and is rightly called as the King of Clay among the tennis professionals.

He has won French Open tournaments five times in the last six years, Australian Open tournament once in 2009, Wimbledon twice and the US Open tournament in this year, thus making nine Grand Slam singles titles, in addition to the gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

With age on his side, Rafael Nadal is sure to set new milestones and rule the World of Professional Tennis for a long period of time, experts believe.

Should Rafael Nadal’s sponsors have him wear more traditional tennis attire?

I don’t want to slam Nadal, because I think he’s a great guy with excellent sportsmanship. That said, his sponsors make him wear some pretty tacky clothing. Even though the sleaveless shirts accentuate his muscular physique, don’t they also make him look a little unsophisticated? Plus, can’t they give him some pants (or underwear) that don’t give him a wedgie? I certainly don’t want to play tennis in those kind of shorts/pants.

Djokovic Snaps Nadal’s Win Streak

Novak Djokovic handed number one in waiting Rafael Nadal his first defeat in nearly three months, stunning Spaniard 6-1, 7-5 to reach the final of the Cincinnati Masters.

The Serbian No 3 seed snapped a 32-match win streak for Nadal, who was last defeated on May 7 by compatriot and former No 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero in Rome, with Nadal suffering from foot blisters.

“I played the best summer hard season in my life, so I’m very happy for that,” said Nadal, who is 64-8 on the season with seven titles. “Today he played unbelievable in the first set.

“In the second set I felt well and in some moments I felt I was playing better than him. Finally, he beat me. I just congratulate him because he’s playing well.”

Djokovic is re-emerging as a force in the game just two days after Roger Federer lost his grip on the top ranking after four-and-a-half years. The Swiss star lost in the third round to Ivo Karlovic.

Djokovic has defeated Nadal in four of their six matches on hard court.

“Day after day I’m getting stronger in the segment of my game which is really important coming up to the final stages of the tournament,” said the winner.
“Rafa always gives 100 percent in every match and on any surface. It was a challenge and I accepted it.”

Djokovic will line up in a revenge repeat of last week’s losing quarterfinal in Toronto when he takes on Andy Murray.

Despite his loss and whatever happens at the Beijing Olympics, Nadal will take over the top ranking from Federer on Aug 18 as computer points drop off.
Djokovic, the Australian Open champion and winner of two Masters shields already this season, will climb to second in the 2008 season points race.

Djokovic ripped off from a standing start, reaching a 5-0 lead after just 19 minutes before second seed Nadal got on the scoreboard. The Serb won the opener in 25 minutes, with 11 winners versus only two for Nadal.

Djokovic, who won the first eight points of the evening, lost only four points on serve in the opening phase.
Nadal lifted slightly in the second set, but Djokovic answered by saving the lone break point he faced in the sixth game to level 3-3.
The third seed ended that game with his fifth ace after coming from 0-30 and broke Nadal in the penultimate game of the match.

“I feel happy because for sure I will be number one,” said Nadal. “It’s been hard work for a long, long time.

“But there’s no time to enjoy. I have Olympics in one week.”
