Defending champion Murray was in danger of losing his place in the top four this week but rose to the challenge and stunned top seed Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-finals.
Murray produced a devastating display of attacking tennis, taking the ball on and consistently hitting through the Spaniard, taking advantage of Nadal’s wayward first serve.
Federer has looked back on song this week, winning a couple of close matches against Tomas Berdych and Novak Djokovic. His 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win over Djokovic was particularly pleasing for the Swiss as it was the sort of tight match he has struggled to come through this year and it takes him back to number two in the rankings.

Federer will be aiming for his first Masters 1000 title since Cincinnati last year and his third Rogers Cup crown. History is against Murray as no player has successfully defending their Rogers Cup title since Andre Agassi back in 1995.
Murray narrowly leads the head-to-head 6-5. He went through a patch from 2008-2009 where he beat the Swiss four times in a row, including wins at the Madrid Masters and Indian Wells. However Federer has won their last three – 6-2, 7-6 in the Cincinnati semis last August, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 at the ATP World Finals at the end of the year and most importantly, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in the Australian Open final this year.
Whenever they have played before in finals – in Melbourne this year and at the US Open in 2008, Federer has suddenly raised his game to sweep Murray aside in straight sets and as a result he will be strong favourite today.

Nadal Wins the Atp Monte Carlo Masters Series
The Spaniard Rafael Nadal has become the first player to win the Monte Carlo Masters title for the fourth consecutive time last Sunday by beating the world No 1 tennis player the Swiss Roger Federer during their encounter on one of the most exclusive French clay courts.
Nadal who holds a 98-1 winning streak on clay is the strongest favorite to win the French Open for the fourth time in a row; the second Grand Slam of the year will be played next month. Nadal has only lost one time on clay to Roger Federer at the 2007 Hamburg final.
The 21-year-old Nadal improved his personal record against Federer to 9-6 and he remains undefeated in Monte Carlo where the Spaniard player is extremely well liked by the crowd and where he continues his reign for one more year.
On the other hand, Federer who lost his crown at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year won his first title one week ago in Estoril; he was very certain he was going to be able to defeat Nadal as without a doubt he resurrected in Monte Carlo from his dry drought , but it seems there is something still missing.
“I am coming back strong and I’m happy the way things are now,” said the Swiss, who had mononucleosis earlier this year. A few weeks ago I was still in a bit of doubt.”
Following an exchange of breaks, Federer stole Nadal’s serve in the seventh game, only for the Spaniard to break straight back with a cross-court forehand winner.
Nadal put all his energy into the 12th game and claimed the set by retrieving a volley from Federer. The Swiss who had not a good second serve, did not look stand strong enough to beat Nadal.
Despite, the Swiss set all guns blazing during the second set, attacking the net and managing to hold serve after breaking in the first game. We also saw a second set full of crisp volleys and confusing angles on Federer’s part. He broke Nadal at love in the third game, then easily held for 4-0 before Nadal rallied, but this was still not enough… “Disappointing second set,” Federer said. “After playing the right way against him and then letting him back into the match, it was disappointing. Maybe I didn’t play my best.”
Still, Nadal thinks Federer remains the best, even though he got his first title of the year until last week, he had a slow start but he thinks that is normal since no body can be 100% perfect all of the time.
Nadal’s replies to the constant bad press Roger Federer has received over the past months were “I think he doesn’t get enough credit,” Nadal said. “It is impossible to be at 100 percent all your career, he is still No. 1, the best in the world.” But something else it’s also true; Nadal is the King of Clay and his recent win confirms his supremacy on the red courts …Will there be anybody who can stand in his way to capture his fourth French Open? An answer we will have in about four weeks when the action starts at Roland Garros.

Madrid Masters: the Favorites
There are only two ATP Master Series remaining to determinate the absolute winner. Madrid and France will be the two scenarios to gather the tennis stars. The 2007 season has been a breathtaking year and the Madrid Masters as part of it; promises to offer a great show for Tennis Lovers.
The 21-years-old Rafa Nadal is one of the favorites to win this tournament since he had a great early season and he is aiming to recapture the glory, he also has the advantage of playing at home where he obtained the title two years ago. However, the task ahead will not be easy, as in order to get the title the Spaniard will face the defending champion and world number one Roger Federer who has achieved five Wimbledon titles.
While Nadal is coming back from a rest after suffering a knee injury, the Swiss Federer has been in a great form this year. Actually, his last appearance in the hard surfaces was when winning his third grand slam of the year and 12th of his career at the U.S. Open last month.
Third seed Novak Djokovic winner of the Canada Masters in July is also a strong contender; he reached the quarter finals last year in Madrid. As well as Nadal and Federer, the Serbian has already assured his place in Shangai.
But things are very equal and the favorites are taking nothing for granted. The list of favorites includes others figures like: Davydenko, Andy Murray and France number one ranked Gasquet.

Atp Cincinnati Masters – Murray Takes Trophy Home
The Cincinnati Masters which is part of the nine Masters Series tournaments in the ATP tour was just recently held in Mason, Ohio and to this day it is the oldest tennis event played in the United States. For the surprise of many, the last two men standing were the Serbian Novak Djokovic and the Scot Andy Murray who has positioned himself in the number 6 spot in the rankings after grasping the title in a thriller match.
On his way to achieve his fourth title the Serbian Djokovic was able to beat the unstoppable Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who will soon become the new number one tennis player in the world, after a 32-match winning streak during their semi final game. The world number three Djokovic continues his pursuit for a better spot but the point gap between Nadal and him is now bigger, the difference stands at 1,065 points after the double win the Spaniard was able to pull by grasping two Grand Slams consecutively.
Nevertheless the US$2,750,000 Cincinnati tournament was a delight display of tennis for the fans as these two sensational players reached the final game. Both of them knew that winning this tournament will unfold the road for the final grand slam scenery in the Big Apple within a couple of weeks. Murray whose game has been in ascension after a long-time wrist injury he was unable to recover from until recently showed his best qualities and skills in the sport. He smartly enough knew how to move the pieces and with amazing back hand strokes stunned his rival in two sets.
The final score of the match was 7-6, 7-6 and it latest approximately two hours and 22 minutes. It was a game full of rallies, tie-breaks, and volleys as both players challenged each other constantly. It was amazing to see how much Murrayâs game has improved in the last months and how clean his moves appear on the hard surfaces. On the other hand, Djokovic did not step back and his ground strokes continued to surprise us all even Murray who by the very end seemed tired but held on until the last second.
Murray did mention that âI played in these conditions all week so maybe I was more used to it.”There were lots of long, long rallies which took a toll and we were both tired at the end.â Regardless of the long runs this did not make a difference for the Scot who risked his games with heavy constant attacks that drained all of his opponentâs energy.
Now, the Scot moves into the sixth position of the world rankings closely followed by the Argentinean Nalbandian and the American James Blake who are approximately 200 points behind him. The next weeks will be quite in the ATP circuit as the Olympics approach but the action will continue in New York City where history will be written for the top players and those who believe can take on better positions in the 2008 ATP race.

ATP Tennis – Nadal Obtains his 5th Straight Title of Monte Carlo Masters
Rafael Nadal, a Spaniard of 22 years and world No.1, won the final at the Monte Carlo Masters by beating the Serbian Novak Djokovic 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 this past Sunday in two hours and 43 minutes. This is the Spaniardâs 5th straight title in this tournament and he is now the first player to win five consecutive games in Monte Carlo. Moreover, this is also Rafaâs 27th victory at the Monte Carlo Masters and the 21st straight win in clay since his defeat against Juan Carlos Ferrero in the second round of the Rome Masters in 2008.
The Spaniard had problems with his serve in the beginning of the match, trailing 3-1 in the first four games, but he recuperated from that bad start and won five games in a row to win the set 6-3. Then, before the start of the second set, the Serbian needed a back massage and it seemed that was the end for Djokovic. However, the Spaniard struggled with his serve and Djokovic took advantage of that, breaking Nadal several times by sticking behind the baseline and beating him off the net. The Serbian won the second set comfortably 2-6. That was the first set that Rafa lost since the final against Roger Federer in 2006 at this tournament.
The third set, however, was key for the Spaniard. After Djokovic lost three break points needed to win, his game went down completely and he lost his focus. Nadal took advantage of Djokovicâs breakdown, and using his experience in finals, completely destroyed the Serbian with impressive plays, winning the set 6-1. For Rafa Nadal this was a tough win in clay but a memorable one since it is his fifth title.
âIt is always really important for me start the clay season like this, for the confidence,” said the world No.1. âTo win another time here is more than a dream for me, is unbelievable, a fifth title here in Monte Carlo. I never expect something like this,â stated the Spaniard champion.
The Serbian, on the other hand, expressed his satisfaction with his performance after the game, and even though he did not play the way he was supposed to in certain moments of the match, he thought this final match was one of his best performances against Rafa Nadal on clay surface.Â
Moreover, since this tournament turned professional in 1968, no one has matched Nadalâs feat: 5 victories in a row. Some players like Reggie Doherty won the tournament on several occasions but never so many in straight years. It is certain that Nadal has made history in Monte Carlo. Now he hopes that next year he will play well enough to get his sixth title.
The Spaniardâs next tournament will be the Open Banca Sabadell tournament in Spain, where he will play against the winner of the match between a qualifier and Yen-Shun Lu in the first round. If he wins this tournament, it will also be for the fifth time in a row.
Congratulations to this amazing Spaniard player and best of the luck to the world No.1 Rafa in the following tournament.

Tennis – Rafael Nadal upsets Djokovic at the Rome Masters final
It was not a good day for the defending champion of the Rome Masters, the Serbian Novak Djokovic, who lost against the Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the final of the tournament, in a great game that was very close during the first set by both players. The game of Djokovic was quite fluctuant during the whole game; at in a moment we was playing great and in the next one he was losing control and committing unforced errors. In addition, Nadal has become the best player in clay surface in recent times and this was the third tournament that he won the last three weeks.
For Nadal, this is his fourth Rome Masters title in five years and the other two clay titles he has won this year are those of the Barcelona Open and the Monte Carlo Masters. Now he will be participating in the Madrid Masters before heading to France to defend his title at the French Open that will start in three weeks. If he continues with his amazing clay run this year, he would win his fifth consecutive title at Roland Garros.
After his win at Rome, the World No.1 referred to his upcoming tournaments – “Every tournament is completely different. In Roland Garros we will see. Important thing is (to) play well. If I am playing well, I’m going to have a lot of chances to have good results in both tournaments. But you never know what can happen. Tennis is always like this,” Said Nadal.
Nadal and Djokovic had to go to a tiebreaker in the first set of the final. According to Nadal, this was one of the most difficult moments of the match for him, but Rafa stayed calmed and played with a great precision, which made Djokovic lose control and led him to convert only 2 points in the tiebreaker. The second set was entirely for Nadal as it ended 6-2 and gave the victory to the Spaniard. A very interesting fact to add is that Djokovic has been the only one capable to win a set to Nadal in clay this season, in the Monte Carlo Masters. However, at Rome it was a different story.
The 22-year-old Spaniard has improved his winning streak on clay to 30 matches, after his early defeat last year to Juan Carlos Ferrero at Rome. This year was different and Nadal has expressed that he is very happy and satisfied with his victory at Rome since for him is very important to win another title that will prove that he is the No. 1 of the world at this moment.
On the other hand, since Djokovic failed to defend his title at Rome, he will lose his No. 3 position in the rankings on May 11th to Andy Murray after last year’s points drop out. He has been the World No. 3 since August 2007and he is planning to recover his position later on this year. Among his best achievements of this year had been defeating Roger Federer in the semifinals of both the Miami Masters and the Rome Masters. Djokovic said that he had his chances on the final against Nadal, but he committed too many errors and that is why Nadal is the No.1, because he knows how to overcome the pressure.

why do you think novak djokovic played so bad at the Shanghai Masters cup?
i was actually disappointed to see novak lose all three of his matches…
i think he was wayyyy too exhausted and obviously it showed and that (even if he’s full of confidence on other matches and other things) he was quite intimidated and nervous about playing some of the other players(ex: ferrer, gasquet, nadal…)He could have done wayy better and its not the usual nole that we see.
what do you think?

Tennis- Djokovic Takes his First Paris Masters from Gael Monfils
Novak Djokovic seems unstoppable after winning two tournaments in a row: first last week in Basel at the final of the Swiss Indoor tournament against Roger Federer and this week at the Paris Masters, where he defeated the local favorite Gael Monfils 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (3) in a dramatic final on Sunday to win the title for the first time. In order to advance to the finals of the tournament, he had to beat Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. He did so smoothly in just two sets 6-2, 6-3 on Saturday. This allowed him to continue on his search to enter the tournament finals for the first time in his career. The Serb was dominant from the beginning, although he said that Nadal was a very skilled player and a difficult one to face. “He is one of the players who is very unpredictable,” Djokovic said. “He can play really, really fast. And with a big serve, he can do a lot of damage to opponents.” This is the second time on a row that he defeated Nadal, improving his 6-14 record against the Spaniard before adding another final to his growing collection. The third-ranked Djokovic looked very calm in the first set with Monfils, which he won easily 6-2 with almost no errors, losing only three points on his serve. The second set was another story; the French player gave his best and, with the crowd’s backing, defeated Djokovic. It wasn’t a hard task, with Djokovic committing 21 unforced errors and ging the opportunity to Monfils to win the first break point in the fifth game. Monfils continued pressuring the Serb to good effect; Djokovic failed to convert during three opportunities and gave space. The French player took advantage of his opponent’s weakness and broke the serve again to lead the second set 6-5. The crowd was cheering frantically for Monfils after each point he converted, dramatically increase the tension during the match. In the final set, the Serb forced an early break again and took the lead 4-1 as Monfils was left gasping for breath after a particularly difficult battle. But Monfils was able to retake the game and won three games in a row, equalizing the score at 4-4. He took advantage of Djokovic’s double fault on a break point. This eventually forced a tie breaker on the game that resulted in Djokovic’s victory over the French player, who was exhausted by the end of the match. “It was unbelievably difficult,” said Djokovic, who has won a record 76 matches on tour this season and claimed his first Masters 1000 title. He added: “Gael was very unpredictable and he was hitting the ball very good”. Djokovic is 4-0 against Monfils, who was looking for his third career title. Djokovic was proud to win this title, the first tournament title of his career. He is now preparing for the eight-man ATP World Tour Finals from Nov. 22-29 in London, where he will defend the title.

Shanghai Masters- Nadal and Djokovic advanced in Shanghai; Del Potro and Roddick retire
Rafael Nadal breezed into the Shanghai Masters after winning in straight sets on Thursday. He was joined by Novak Djokovic. Both players advanced to the quarterfinals on a day on which two great players retired from the tournament because of injuries. Nadal claimed his last title in May; since then, he has been working very hard to claim another. He defeated Tommy Robredo 6-1, 6-4, and on Wednesday, managed to defeat James Blake in three sets 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-4. The victory marked the second time that Nadal needed three sets to defeat the American, whom he had faced previously at the China Open last week. Nadal is likely trying to leave memories of the China Open behind him; the event seemed part of a long losing streak that has long been dogging the former world No. 1 player. Nadal has seemed a little lost in his play lately, unable to find his form in court. Last week, he dropped out of the China Open semifinals, losing against Marin Cilic in just 83 minutes. Cilic claimed the victory in two straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. However, the Spaniard appears to be regaining his form in Japan, judging by his performances this week. “Today the important moment, for example, in my opinion, the beginning of the second set was very important, because I was playing really well, 6-1, having the control of the match, playing aggressive,” Nadal said of his match against Robredo. “Tommy didn’t have lot of chances. So I played two bad games in the beginning of the second and the set was difficult.” Novak Djokovic, who is advancing along with Nadal, faced Rainer Schuettler. As did Nadal, the Serb defeated his opponent in two straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Schuettler had an opportunity to force a tiebreak in the first set at 5-4, but Djokovic was able to maintain his composure and regain control of the set. He used his forehand down when he scored his first set point and finished dominating the match. Overall, Djokovic benefited from a solid serve; he was also able to break Schuettler’s serve four times and took the victory in 1 hour, 25 minutes. “I didn’t play the last couple of games of the first set that well, but the important thing is that I played as much as I needed to win,” Djokovic said. Not everyone was as fortunate as Nadal and Djokovic. Juan Martin del Potro, the winner of the US Open, retired from the Shanghai Masters after suffering from tendinitis in his right wrist. Del Potro withdrew during a match against Jurgen Melzer of Austria, 7-5, 2-1. The Argentine explained that he had suffered from the same problem earlier that year, and that although he was unhappy to leave the tournament, he needed to rest and recover in order to enjoy the rest of the season. Fourth-seeded Andy Roddick also retired from the tournament; on Tuesday, he withdrew from his match against Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland for a knee injury. In the quarterfinals, Nadal will face Ivan Ljubicic and Djokovic will play Gilles Simon.

ATP Tennis – Djokovic and Federer Will Face Each Other In Semifinals at Rome Masters
The 27-year-old Swiss Roger Federer and the world No.3 Novak Djokovic will face each other again after their last meeting in Miami. Both of them are really excited about the confrontation and expect to have a great tennis match. Both players had great matches in the quarterfinals. The world No. 2 got to the semifinals after defending the German Mischa Zverev 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 whereas the Serbian had a great game against Juan Martin del Potro, in which the world No.3 beat the Argentine with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
In the last 10 meetings between the two, Federer has won 8 matches, however in the last confrontation Djokovic played in great way and beat the Swiss 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 during the semifinals at the Sony Ericsson Open. Now the Swiss is expecting to play a better match against Djokovic and hopes to increase his game and his confidence with a win in Rome. However, it has to be mentioned, that the Serbian is currently playing great tennis at clay surface and even adding a winning set against the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, in the final at Monte Carlo.
“We haven’t had each other that much on clay. It seems like he’s playing well again. Djokovic came through very convincingly against good players so I expect a good match. I hope I can play better than in Miami. I think everywhere I go there is always pressure involved because I still think people expect me to go far and win tournaments and so forth,” stated Federer.
During the quarterfinals, the Swiss had difficulties in the first set against the German but with great shots in key moments of the tiebreak he managed to win the set 7-6(3), which gave him confidence to play at his best and achieve the triumph by winning the second set comfortably 6-2.
On the other hand, Djokovic played an unbelievably clever game against the Argentinean, who tried to avoid changing the pace but Djokovic took that advantage incredibly well and Del Potro definitely could not put up with it. With three breaks in the first set and an ace on set point Djokovic demonstrated his dominance over Del Potro. And despite that Juan Martin Del Potro improved his serve in the second set, that wasn’t enough to tie the game and at the end Djokovic got a victory with a score of 6-4 in the second set.
Now, these two players expect a great match and will try to win and obtain the ticket to the final. They both had their own motivation for this; Federer is hoping for his first title of the season to regain his confidence and the Serbian his aiming to defend his title and improving his clay season this year. We wish the best for both of them in this tournament and in the rest of the season and we hope to see a great semifinal at the Rome Masters.
