Andy Murray seeded fourth at Wimbledon
British number one Andy Murray has been seeded fourth for Wimbledon, with defending champion and world number two Roger Federer handed the top seeding.
Defending champion Serena Williams is top seed for the women’s singles with sister Venus at number two.
Federer, six-time Wimbledon champion, received the number one seeding despite being supplanted by Rafael Nadal at the top of the world rankings.
The grass-court Grand Slam starts on 21 June with the draw on Friday.
Wimbledon Hospitality
Spaniard Nadal, who was unable to defend his Wimbledon title last year because of a knee injury, overtook his Swiss rival after winning his fifth French Open crown in Paris earlier this month.
The 23-year-old Murray will be desperate for an improvement in fortune having been hampered by a knee injury and beaten by American Mardy Fish in the third round at Queen’s.
The Scot has admitted he needs more grass-court action and will face former Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt at London’s Hurlingham club on Thursday.
Murray, Britain’s number one, suffered a four-set loss to American Andy Roddick in last year’s Wimbledon semi-final and will find out on Friday whether he is in line to face Federer or Nadal in the last four.
Three-time Wimbledon runner-up Roddick, who went on to lose a five-set thriller to Federer in the 2009 final, moves up to fifth seed because of his record on grass, despite being ranked world number seven.
Australia’s Hewitt, ranked 26 in the world, rises to 15th seed after an impressive win over Federer on grass in the Halle final in Germany on Sunday – only Federer’s second defeat on grass in 78 matches.
Discretion is down to the All England Club which seeds the players based on their record on grass.
Wimbledon Hospitality
Wimbledon referee Andrew Jarrett said: “While the seeding positions of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are reversed from their current rankings, there is no practical effect since they remain the leading seeds in their respective halves of the draw.”
The women’s seedings stuck to the world rankings, with the possibility of a fifth all-Williams Wimbledon final following Serena’s win over Venus last year for her third Wimbledon title.
Caroline Wozniacki is third seed and because of the withdrawal of the injured world number five Elena Dementieva, Jelena Jankovic is fourth seed ahead of French Open champion Francesca Schiavone.
Belgians Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin, who are both returning to Wimbledon after coming out of retirement, are seeded number eight and 17 respectively.

Nadal Wins the French Open for the Fourth Consecutive Time
The Spaniard Rafael Nadal simply took everything from his opponent Roger Federer to conquer his fourth consecutive French Open title.
Despite Nadal’s already accomplished grand slams being four of those French Opens; the experience and retired tennis player Bjorn Borg did venture to make some predictions before the final game between Nadal vs. Federer, which by the way were the complete opposite.
“A lot of people say no one can beat Nadal the way he’s been playing. But I think Roger has a really, really good chance,” the great Swede said on the eve of Sunday’s final. But Borg was wrong, Federer got beat 6-1, 6-3,6-0.
“I think it’s going to be a really open final. I think it’s going to be a long match, very close, close match, and if Roger wins Paris, no doubt he’s the greatest player who ever played the game,” said Borg.
Borg was wrong again, Rafael Nadal won the most uneven men’s final in Paris, France ever since 1977 and this became the shortest final since 1980 as it only took one hour 48 minutes.
The game was only one sided, Nadal was uncomfortable to rejoice his title win whereas Roger Federer was even more humiliated to received the runner’s up 530,000 Euros check.
From the time when Federer has his first debut at the French Open in 1999, he has accumulated149 wins and 23 losses record. However; none of those losses will upset and hurt him as much as this Sunday’s final against Nadal.
Federer, who has built up his reputation to be the number one and defeating his opponents in consistent ways, for once, was the one receiving an absolute massacre by Rafael Nadal. Unquestionably; that wasn’t the exhibition fans expected from the 12-times Grand Slam champion.
“After a loss like this you don’t want to play Rafa again tomorrow, that’s for sure,” claimed a shell-shocked Federer.
As an alternative for Federer to become the man to win all four major grand slam titles, Federer received the merit of becoming the first tennis player to lose three times in a row the French Open (Roland Garros) finals.
Nadal’s game was impressive, solid and unstoppable during the whole tournament; he became the first tennis player since Borg in 1980 to win the French Open without loosing a set, proving with that clay is his court regardless what others can suggest.
Also; as Borg… Nadal is the only tennis player to win four consecutive titles since the event was proclaimed international in 1925. Critics said that probably only Nadal’s health could stop him from expanding his record of 28-0 at Roland Garros in 2009.
After his triumph in France, people ask him to explain the secret of his success, and Rafael Nadal replies saying: : “Well, if you have no special motivation for a tournament like Roland Garros you can retire, go home, fishing, have a boat, enjoy the life, no?”
Now for Federer his focus turns to the green lawns of Wimbledon where he has been undefeated for five years. Unluckily for Federer, Nadal will be closer breaking at his feet. However; we shall expect to enjoy lots of action as very likely these two incredible players will meet again for the All England Club Crown.

Rafael Nadal Wins His Fourth French Open
Twenty-two-year-old Rafael Nadal took home his fourth Roland Garros French Open tennis title in a row recently after defeating Roger Federer in the final.
Nadal is also the seventh to win a Grand Slam without dropping a set. The last person to achieve this feat was his competitor, Roger Federer. Federer won last year’s Australian Open, but the magic of his flawless winning streak has fled in lieu of Nadal.
Rafael Nadal
Nadal is a native of Manacor, Majorca, a municipality on the largest of the Balearic Islands. Also known as Rafa, he began playing tennis at a very young age under the instruction of his uncle Toni. Toni taught Rafa to play tennis left handed in order to work on his two-handed backhand. Rafa is naturally right-handed but plays tennis left-handed. When he was 12 years old, Rafa decided to pursue a career in tennis.
By the time he was 15, Rafa had won his first Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) match. When he was 16, he was ranked among the world’s top 100 singles players.
At 17 he became the youngest male tennis player to reach the third round since 1984 when Boris Becker reached that goal at 16 years old. Rafa missed most of the 2004 tennis season due to a fractured left ankle but came back with a vengeance in 2005.
In 2005, a 19-year-old Rafa created quite a name for himself. He reached the fourth round at the Australian Open and reached the final at the Miami Masters Tournament. That same year, he won two ATP Masters Series events and held the longest winning streak of any teen in the open era with 24 consecutive wins.
Roger Federer
Considered by his peers to have the potential to be ‘the greatest player in history’, Roger Federer, 28, holds 12 Grand Slam singles titles.
Federer began playing tennis at six years of age. In 1998 he was recognized by the International Tennis Federation as the ITF World Junior Tennis champion of the year.
That same year he joined the ATP tour and finished the year as the youngest player in the ATP’s top 100 ranking. In 2000, he reached the Sydney Olympics semifinals.
In 2001 he won his first ATP tournament and reached the quarter finals at Wimbledon. The victory over Pete Sampras is often considered the turning point in his career. He reached his first ATP Masters Series (AMS) in 2002 as well as several other tournament semifinals and victories. In 2003 he continued his winning streak and defeated Andre Agassi in the final and won the Tennis Masters Cup tournament in Houston, Texas.
Federer won his first Australian Open title in 2004.
During the 2004 season he did not lose to any other player in the top 10 ranking and won every final he attempted.
In 2005 he continued an amazing number of career wins and finished the year with an 82-3 streak with one tie, making his total wins 81. He lost the French Open title but lost in the semi finals to Rafael Nadal. For two more years, 2006-2007, he continued to play fantastic seasons and come face to face with Nadal at the French Open.
Much Anticipated Rivalry
In 2005, Federer won 81 matches. In the same year, Rafa won 79 matches. The following year Rafa and Federer continued their rivalry all the way to the French Open.
Rafa made it to the final and went up against Federer in a match most tennis fans had been anticipating all year. If Federer won, it would be a Calendar Year Grand Slam for him. After a very competitive match, Rafa emerged the victor.
The two came face to face once again in 2007 in the final match of the French Open. Rafa became the first player since 1981 to win the French Open for a third consecutive year. And again, Rafa was the roadblock in Federer’s route to a career Grand Slam.
Again, in the 2008 French Open, the two played amazingly well and met on the court in the final game of the French Open tournament. After a very intense game, Rafael Nadal emerged the victor. After the match Federer said, ‘Rafa is very, very strong and he dominates this tournament like never before. Congratulations Rafa.’

ATP Tennis – Federer Advances to the Fourth Round of the Sony Ericsson Open
The 27-year-old and seeded No.2, Roger Federer advanced to the fourth round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami by beating the German Nicolas Keifer 6-4, 6-1. It was a great game for the Swiss, who had to play with strong winds and with a little bit of rain. However, despite all this difficulties, the Swiss played amazingly well and this win gives some more confidence in his game to the world No.2 and a secure place to play the fourth round of the tournament; hoping for his first title of the year, and the first Masters title in quite a while, since he won his last one in August, 2007.
At the beginning of the game, the German started in a very good shape, winning the first game of the first set, but the Swiss without problems recaptured the control of the game by breaking Keifer’s serve in two occasions and even with good plays from Keifer, Federer imposed himself with great tennis. During the first set, the Swiss was having close to 70% on first serve effectiveness while the German was having close to 50%. During the second set, Federer was without a doubt in control of the game and the victory seemed remarkably on his hands. The German lost his confidence at the end of the game, which was notable especially by his many unforced errors from which Federer took advantage off and finished the set 6-1. With that result, the game was over in favour of the Swiss, who after 70 minutes got his qualification to the next round.
The following contender of Roger Federer will be the American Taylor Dent, who after several surgeries due to back problems and years of absence, defeated the 15th seeded Tommy Robredo 7-5, 6-3 in the third round at Crandon Park in Miami. This was a surprise upset for many fans of tennis, but it is very refreshing to see this American doing such a great comeback presentation in this important U.S tournament.
For Federer, playing against Dent will be very interesting and a great experience. “It’s great to see him back playing,” said the world No.2. “He was always a dangerous player on tour because he was aggressive, offensive and kind of making the match decides on a couple of passing shots here and there. It’s going to be interesting for me to see how he plays. I actually never played him, so I can’t compare before and after injury. I’m looking forward to a good match.”
Both players are really excited for this game and hope for the best results. Federer is conscious that he needs to win this tournament to regain some points in the rankings and recapture some confidence in his game, while also accomplishing his first title of the year. Federer has won this tournament in two occasions, one in 2005 where he defeated Rafael Nadal in five sets and then in 2006 against Ljubicic where he beat him in three tie-breaks. On the other hand, winning this game would be a plus to Dent’s recovery and would give him a better position in the rankings as well. We wish the best of lucks for both players and hope for them to give us all the tennis fans a great game to watch.
