WTA Tennis ? Serena Williams will undergo surgery for injured foot

I don’t know how many costumers have cut their feet at a restaurant because of a broken glass. You also wonder what kind of footwear could somebody be wearing to cut their feet so badly in a restaurant to actually need surgery. Strangely enough, this is exactly what happened to Serena Williams a couple of days ago. Rumor has it, she might be out for the rest of the season.

Serena Williams started strong in 2010 and had managed to keep up her momentum. She was dominant at the Australian Open. This was Serena’s 15th Grand Slam final. She defeated Justine Henin and took home her 12th Grand Slam title. She suffered a leg injury in training afterwards and missed on five consecutive tournaments including the Dubai Tennis Championship and the Premiere Mandatory Sony Ericsson Open.

She had made it back to the top of the sport in 2009 after dealing with many injuries. And Serena had been able to stay there ever since, but after missing this tournaments, many fans and tennis enthusiast alike were wondering if once again injuries would bring Serena down of the WTA podium.

When the clay season started, she had quite a debacle in the Mutua Madrileña Madrid Open, on the third round. It was not a good omen for what might come at the French Open. Samanta Stosur put an end to her dominance at Roland Garros in the quarterfinals. Serena made 46 unforced errors and missed a match-set point in the final set. Still, Serena has always had some trouble at Roland Garros. She has yet to pass the quarterfinals in this tournament since 2003.

Still, Serena kept up her optimism and regained her confidence after defeating Russian Vera Zvonareva on the Wimbledon Final game less then a month ago. She did not drop a set on any of the previous seven matches she played on the tournament. It looked as if Serena was back in top-shape. That’s 13 Grand Slam titles. And at 28-years-old she could still win a couple more.

And then she cut her right foot with a broken glass on a restaurant. Not a small cut either. But a big enough cut to have to undergo surgery and miss from 3-5 tournaments leading the US Open. It is still uncertain how the injured happen. It is certainly a very misfortune event for Serena.

“I’m so upset I won’t be able to play in the upcoming events because of this foot surgery,” Williams said on a press release. It is a shame we are to miss one of the best players because of such an unnecessary incident.

So, what did Serena Williams basically say to the lines women? Lots of speculation is being thrown about as to exactly what she claimed and further more, why she claimed it. Apparently the lines women told Serena that she was responsible as the inaccurate foot movement she had made during play. Serena Williams was given an automated point penalty for violation which stopped the match with Kim Clijsters winning 6-4, 7-5 at the US Open.

According to the EPSN taped coverage of the match Serena Williams expounded to the lines women “I swear to God *CENSORED*, I am taking this ball and shoving it up your *CENSORED*, if I want I could take this ball and force it down your throat”. This isnt the 1st time a tennis star has brought to verbally abusing referees though . I believe many folks can recollect the exploits of John “Johnny” McEnroe back when he used to play big grand slam contests. Serena Williams is at present ranked 2nd in the world after the Russian player Dinara Safira.

She has won 22 grand slam titles in her career and is presently the champion of the US Open, Wimbledon and the Australian Open. The lines women who she verbally took to abusing reputedly hit back telling the press that Serena Williams had promised to kill her. The case is at present being inspected.
