2009 ATP World Tour Finals – Nikolay Davydenko 6:3 6:4 Juan Martín del Potro – Victory Ceremony 2/2

Tennis ATP World Tour Finals 2009 Champion – Nikolay Davydenko Runner-up – Juan Martín del Potro The first Russian tennis player to triumph at the ATP Final tournament, Nikolay Davydenko, hopes he will become more popular among Russian fans after his success. The 28-year-old claimed the biggest title of his career in beating Juan Martin Del Potro 6-3, 6-4 in Sundays final in London. And talking to Sport-Express newspaper, he said he didnt expect the decider to turn out so easy. I thought it would be a lot more difficult. Over the previous two days I had spent two tough three-set matches. I wasted particularly many energy in Saturdays semi-final against Roger Federer. I felt myself exhausted during warm up and had no idea which tennis Ill show on the day. But I forced myself to forget about all the problems and went out on the court extremely concentrated. I was able lock the Argentinean on the back line. In the course of game, my rival realized that if he missed the first serve, Ive counterattacked on the second. Del Potro was forced to make his first serve lighter to avoid a fault. Besides, I played well at the net, he said. Despite the win, Davydenko stressed that its early to compare him to such stars of Russian tennis like Evgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin. I really hope that now Ill become more popular among the fans in Russia. At the same time I understand: theyve won two Grand Slam tournaments, but I still need to achieve this, he said. He said its his stamina he
