Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – European Soccer- Spain Beats France And England Beats Egypt On Friendly Matches
On Wednesday, the top European teams demonstrated why they are the favorites to win the next World Cup, held this year in South Africa.
Spain took France in a much-anticipated match between two of the favorite European teams; without a doubt, however, Spain proved its superiority, surpassing France in a 2-0 victory in the Stade de France. This victory was Spain’s first in French territory since 1968.
Spain has proven that it has a very solid team, winning 42 of the last 45 games; its last defeat was against the United States at the Confederations Cup.
The Spaniards started creating opportunities from the beginning of the game. The first clear chance came at minute 18, when Xabi Alonso’s free kick went too wide and David Villa was unable to control the ball. The first goal came just a minute later, when David Silva missed a pass from Andres Iniesta after beating Julien Escude; Vila managed to take the ball and finish the play, passing French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
The second goal came in the first half as well, at minute 45, when Alonso was able to take the ball from Yoann Gourcuff and pass directly to Sergio Ramos. Ramos, already in the area, made a left-footed shot that arced into the far side of the net.
The French players went into halftime already down by 2, and their anxiety showed. Under pressure, the French team emerged in the second half with clear intentions of beating the Spanish team. Thierry Henry, Nicolas Anelka, and Djibril Cisse had clear opportunities, but their efforts produced no points, and the French team lost the game, 2-0.
The same evening, England played Egypt at the Wembley Stadium in London. After a bad start, England managed to take the match 3-1, overcoming a first goal scored by the Egyptians.
The Egyptian team was a strong rival; it had won the African Nations Cup last month, a prize that left the players highly motivated. Indeed, the Egyptians may even be better than some of the best teams in Europe; judging from the African tournament, they might prove themselves solid contenders in the World Cup.
Egypt opened the score at minute 30, when Wael Gomaa sent a volley that England’s goalkeeper, Robert Green, seemed able to control. But Mathew Upson lost control of the ball, leaving a clear shot for Mohamed Zidan, who didn’t hesitate; his shot launched straight into the English team’s net.
The English team had a slow start. The players had clear opportunities but failed to convert, and went into halftime down 1-0.
The second half, however, saw a different game. England was able to score three goals, a minutes 56, 75, and 80, regaining its confidence. The goals weren’t easy, but Egypt’s defense left enough gaps that allowed the English team to convert. Egypt had opportunities as well, but against a resurgent England, one of the favorites for the World Cup, the team was unable to capitalize. England took the game, 3-1.

Atp Tennis – Nadal Beats Berrer In Second Round At Indian Wells
The Spaniard of 22-years-old and No.1 of the world, Rafael Nadal had a great performance in the second round of Indian Wells by beating the German Michael Berrer 6-2, 6-1. The game was well-played by the Spaniard, who did not have any difficulties at it since the German didn’t challenge Nadal in any way. The No.1 of the world will face the Russian Dmitry Tursunov in the third round, which will be his second match on the tournament, since he received a bye in the first round. Tursunov defeated the American Michael Russell in a tough game 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 in the early morning of Sunday.
During the game, Rafael Nadal was always in control, winning 16 of the last 19 points in the match. The Spaniard broke the world No.112 Berrer in the first game of each set and it took him one hour, six minutes to take apart another adversary. Moreover, the Spaniard had 24 winners, while he made only 45 percent of his first serves; he lost only five points on serves.
With this triumph, Nadal expressed his confidence in his game and his satisfaction of his performance at his first game at Indian Wells. “For me, it was perfect. I played a very comfortable match. I had the break in the first game in both sets, so that’s really important. I felt well on court, playing good,” said the top seed of the tournament.
Now, Rafa Nadal will focus on his next game against the Russian, who could be a good contender for the Spaniard. Moreover it has to be mentioned that the Spaniard is considered at the top of his game and his professional career. Many consider that he is a great player and even “the strongest player on the tour”, as the No.3 Djokovic has said, but he has also added that Nadal is not invincible, especially on hard courts. For his part, Nadal says he never focuses on his rivals; he is just focusing on improving his game at each match his playing at every tournament.
Nadal won the Indian Wells in 2007 and he hopes to repeat the title this year, however it is going to be tough as players like Federer are looking to recover their confidence and add titles to their careers. Djokovic for his part is the defender champion of the event and he is also aiming to repeat the achievement of last year’s. Murray, Roddick, Simon and other great players are also trying to improve their games at important events like Indian Wells.
Some analysts think that Nadal could be a stronger contender to win the Indian Wells title this year than in past. The Spaniard has improved his performance at hard courts and that was proved by winning this year’s Australian Open against the Swiss Roger Federer. Also his determination and focus at every minute of every match is amazing. Nadal just has a strong mind set, as he has demonstrated several times; even when he is not playing his best tennis he never lose his concentration, no matter what Nadal always stays focused, which is incredible to see in a tennis player.
We wish the Spaniard the best of luck on his next match and in the whole tournament and we hope to see him in the finals showing his best tennis.

Rafael Nadal Beats Verdasco In Monte Carlo Finals
CLAY COURT King Rafael Nadal defeated his friend and country mate Fernando Verdasco in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 in the finals
of Monte Carlo Championship. The match ended after one hour 25 minutes with lots of power hitting from both the players.
After losing the match against his dear friend, Verdasco said “When he plays like that,” “no one can beat him.” And the
statement is pretty true because on the clay court he plays like god that no one can stand among his backhands and forehands.
After winning the Monte Carlo trophy Nadal seemed pleased and he will he will be heading to his next test, in Barcelona but
playing at the Madrid is looking pretty difficult as no commitment yet from and Rome is also in the line-up.
But the most awaited Rolland Garros as his country will be starting in a month which will be the most crucial title for
Nadal as he has a record of winning this title consecutively.
However, Nadal was not playing well if we look at his previous records, Rafa has not able to win a title since last 11 months
but this win at Monte Carlo must have boosted his winning confident and will help him to win further tournaments.
He was not able to perform previously because of his knee injury and sore abdominals, and played poorly in the Australian
Open, coming to life briefly in losing to Andy Murray but he had bounce in his feet for Monte Carlo.
Rafael Nadal will be facing many big names in between his title like Federer, Djokovic, Murray, Verdasco, Ferrer, Ferrero,
Del Potro, Soderling, Berdych and Nalbandian.
So let’s see what the powerful, never say die attitude Rafa do to win further title as the journey is still hard and many
obstacles will be there for him. Let’s hope Nadal performs to his potential in the coming tournaments and win many titles.

Tennis – Juan Martin del Potro beats Federer
London: Argentinean Juan Martin del Potro scored possibly his second biggest career win to pack off home favourite Andy Murray at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena late Thursday night.
Del Potro’s first real crowning moment of glory came at this year’s US Open final for his maiden Grand Slam title.
And last night he dug in deep and played some of his best tennis to secure a fascinating 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3 win yet again versus World No.1 and newly crowned world champion Roger Federer before a packed O2 Arena here.
The result meant an earlier short trip back home for local hero Murray, who was relying heavily on the outcome of the match. At the end of the round robin fixtures for Group A, all three – Federer, Del Potro and Murray had identical records. But the one aspect that went against Murray was that he won just one game less than the ‘Tower of Tandil’ from Argentina.
For the sake of interest, Federer had a 44-40 record, Del Potro had 45-43 and Murray in third place in the group having won 44 and lost 43 games in the three matches played.
Last year in Shanghai it was a somewhat similar story with Murray inflicting a three-set defeat on Federer to deny the Swiss ace a spot in the semifinals. However, the grueling result affected the Scot as he went down in straight sets to eventual runner-up Nikolay Davydenko.
Last night, Del Potro tasted early success as he broke Federer in the first and fifth games for a comfortable 5-1 lead. He then held to take the set 6-2 in 38 minutes.
But the second was a complete contrast with the Swiss trying too many things and missing. However, he did manage to escape by the slimmest of margins to win it 7-5 in the tie-breaker in 51 minutes.
In the deciding third set, Federer self-destructed in the eighth game and del Potro took the opportunity to serve out for game, set and match 6-3 in two hours and six minutes of on-court action.
Group A record:
Position Name Matches Sets Games
1. Federer 2-1 5-4 44-40
2. Del Potro 2-1 5-4 45-43
3. Murray 2-1 5-4 44-43
Result: Juan Martin del Potro bt Roger Federer 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3
