How can anyone hate Roger Federer?

I’m not one of those stupid fans, don’t worry. I get how someone can hate Nadal because of his odd style of play, his loud grunts, weird clothing, or even how he looks. But not all Nadal haters are Federer fans. So I think the only reason that people hate Federer is because they like Nadal. Correct?

Anyone else disappointed that Andy Roddick lost to Roger Federer today?

Andy played so well, but just came up short . He just can not seem to win Wimbledon or beat Federer.

Anyone else would totally rock Venus Williams new tennis outfit?

Personally I like it. In fact I want to get me one so when my hubby gets back from Afghanistan, I could wear this when we play against each other. Especially since we put personal bets on our matches. I think it would totally take his concentration away. What about you ladies, would you rock the dress in a match? And fellas would you mind if you wife or girl played you in it?

Venus Williams really looks sick at the AO. Can anyone confirm this?

I have been watching Venus playing and she looks like she has to muddle through. Seems she cannot catch her breath at times. Could it be the anemia or is it very hot there at the open?

I love Venus and am probably her biggest fan…. but wow!! She won the YEC in convincing fashion this year. I am still shocked at the results.

Does anyone think Kim Clijsters is pretty lucky and the 2010 Us OPen is hers for the taking due to luck…?

I mean, not taking anything away from her skills… she’s a former world number 1 and 2 time grand slam champion… but ever since her comeback I feel like she’s been getting a little too much luck.

I mean… Against Serena Williams at the US Open she won because of Serena’s foot fault (set up match point) and then the penalty point for Serena’s outburst. I’m not saying she didn’t outplay Serena (she did in the first set most definitely… but the 2nd set was quite tight)…. and at the 2003 Australian Open she was up 5-1 against Serena in the 3rd set but Serena came back and beat her. And Serena came back from 5-0 from matchpoint against Henin in the 2008 Miami (?) and won. And in this case, Serena was only a game behind and it wasn’t even matchpoint. It was probably a 50/50 chance Kim would have broken down and Serena won against her.

Plus… Kim’s always played badly in finals due to her nerves and pressure… but luckily for her…. Dementieva and Sharapova and the other women were playing badly and Melanie Oudin took out some seeds… so she got to play a newbie Caroline Wozniacki in the final. She probably would have collapsed had she played a higher level player… (She pretty much couldn’t handle Henin in their three grand slam finals and had breakdowns).

Also… at the 2010 Miami event…. when she set up matchpoint against Henin in the 3rd set tiebreak, she later admitted it was pure luck she managed to volley Henin’s backhand passing shot over the net. Otherwise it would have been Henin’s matchpoint and knowing her nerves Henin would have beaten her.

And then…. at the 2010 Wimbledon… Henin was completely overwhelming her in the 1st set… but unluckily Henin tripped and injured her elbow which caused Clijsters to easily defeat her once the match went on.

And finally… just this week… Sharapova had to deal with tiredness from playing a 3 setter in her semis match but Clijsters was well rested because Ivanovic got a foot injury….. and then Today…. Maria was destroying her on court but the rain delay allowed Clijsters to collect herself and come back and win. ANd also… the rain delay caused Maria to lose focus and intensity and as the match went into a 3 setter you could see how tired she was.

If her luck continues…… I see her getting a super easy draw at teh US OPen (since she will be seeded 4th right?) and her ranked quarterfinal and semifinal opponent being non seeds since the seeded players played badly and got ousted… I then see her playing against some good, but inexperienecd player in the final like Azarenka and winning…

Seriously I mean.. the 2010 US Open has basically overtaken the French Open as THE MAJOR THATS EASIEST FOR INEXPERIENCED PLAYERS TO WIN. I mean wtf? The Us Open has always had the widest array of champions from venus to serena to henin to clijsters to sharapova… but now…. Serena and venus AND Maria are injured. AND Henin is injured and has already dropped out of the event.

There is basically NO-ONE to pose a threat to Clijsters at teh Us Open. THe only person who can win against her is some low ranked player who is red hot and luckier than she (like Schiavone at teh French, Rezai at Madrid, Sanchez at Rome, Petrova at Australian).

Honestly… I see Clijsters winning this tournament without dropping a set.
Oh yeah.. Jelena isn’t really much a threat because Kim leads 6-1 against her and Jelena never could handle the Belgian duo (lost 10 times to Henin) nor collect herself enough (only made 1 Grand Slam final)

Radwanska lacks offensive power to win on such a fast playing surface…

Stosur….. the girl is good on clay lets just leave it on that. Stosur sucks on grass and is average/below average on hard courts.

Zvonareva is kinda the type of lucky red hot player i was talking about…

and Dementieva has been streaky since her injury.

Perhaps Li Na MIGHT stand a chance? but she’s not at Clijster’s level either…

Does anyone think Matt Nathanson looks like Roger Federer?

I just watched the music video for Matt Nathanson’s Come On Get Higher and I really see a resemblance between him and the tennis star, Roger Federer. I especially see it when he tilts his head up and closes his eyes. Someone please tell me I’m right.

Nadal Starts as he Means to go On, Can Anyone Stop Him?

The mens clay court tennis season got underway last week at the Monte Carlo Masters and not unsurprisingly, the World’s clay court king, Rafael Nadal, won the tournament for the fifth successive season.

For Nadal, it was his 138th win in 142 matches on the surface and proof, if any was ever needed, that he is the greatest clay court player the world has ever seen.

He now plays in Barcelona against a field denied by the likes of Federer, Djokovic and Murray and is an odds certainty to win there too, which would bring his tally to four titles already this season and with another Masters clay court tournament to play in Madrid before the players embark on the second Grand Slam tournament of the year at the French Open.

Nadal has won the French Open for the past four years and holds the remarkable record of never having been beaten at Roland Garros. In last year’s French Open final he defeated the second best clay court player in the world, Roger Federer, losing just four games in his three set victory. It was humiliating loss for Federer, who at the time was the world number one and favourite to overhaul the record fourteen Grand Slam titles held by Pete Sampras.

It is Nadal who is now the world number one and it is he rather than Federer who is favourite to transcend Sampras’s feat. The Spaniard has already amassed six Grand Slam wins and with the French and Wimbledon looming, he is likely to make that eight before the year is out and he is only 22 years old.

Obviously, Federer, Djokovic and Murray will all be out there to stop him but even they, when in their deepest thoughts, must wonder how to beat a man who plays with such stubborn defence and overwhelming accuracy on virtually any court.

In Monte Carlo last week, Murray showed signs that he could trouble the Spaniard. He took the second set to a tie break and looked for a long period that he was the better player, but it was Nadal who found the way to win when it mattered. Djokovic also had Nadal in trouble in the final, daring even to take a set off him, but he too fell by the wayside when the going got tough. Federer of course went out of the tournament early, offering more proof that his reign is now over at the top of the world.

There are three Grand Slam events left this year, the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. There is little doubt that Nadal will claim the French Open and he will be favourite to win for the second straight year at Wimbledon. There is a chance that any of the other top four players could upset his chances at the US Open, but with Nadal already in possession of the Australian Open title even that will be a tall order. Nadal could be the first man since the great Rod Laver to hold all four Grand Slam titles in one year. Who would bet against him?

Read more about Nadal and his chances of winning the remaining major tennis events of the year at the author’s own sites including Wimbledon Tennis Betting which previews the chances of major players for the most famous of all the majors.
