Should James Blake retire this year?

I know some of you (such as Jay) are pissed about reading this question, so for the record I actually am a James Blake fan. He was actually my 1st favourite player (then Djokovic, and now it’s Baghdatis)

His ranking has dropped to 115. His record this year is a measly 8-9 and he hasn’t even made it to the finals of a tournament. He was embarrased at Wimbledon, losing to Robin Haase in straights the first round, and he also had a spat with Pam Shriver.

To further strengthen my point, I just recently read Inside Tennis magazine. Included in that issue was an article about James Blake titled: “At a Crossroads”. It is identified that he does have/had a knee injury, and it seems pretty serious. He says he retweaked his knee in Eastbourne against Julien Benneteau. Blake has also refused to take surgery, painkillers, or anti-inflammatories. Yes, I am well aware of the fact that he has battled a major back problem, shingles, and a broken neck (or was it a vertebrate?). However, he added:

“If it doesn’t get better soon, I’m not sure how much longer I want to play in pain.”

I hate to be the breaker of bad news but I personally think that he needs to retire from tennis. My suggestion for James Blake: retire at the 2010 US Open.
I also read James Blake’s autobiography by the way. So i know what he’s been through haha
@David — You were right XD

Do you think that Roger Federer should forget about the French Open, and rest during that period and just?

prepare for Wimbledon every year for now on? Maybe he is pressing himself too much to win that event. Rafa is only 22 and owns the French Open, he is a 4 time winner, and will probably win it serveral more times. Also, Roger should hire a coach. If I were Federer, I would give the French Open 1 or 2 more chances, if he doesn’t win it by 2010, he probably will never win it. He’ll turn 30 in 2011, and he isn’t going to win it after age 30. His window is closing very quickly there. Maybe he should just concentrate on Aus Open, Wimb and US Open. Many of the greats used to skip the French. It’s too hard to win. I know he wants all 4 majors, but at some point, you have to admit to yourself that it won’t be done, you agree?

When will Roger Federer break Pete Sampras’ 14 grand slam record? He has 12. He probably won’t win the

French Open, Nadal will. He has a great shot at Wimbledon, and that’s about it. With Djokovic coming up, and Tsonga, it’s hard to see Federer even winning the US Open this year. So, I see him passing Sampras’ mark and getting to 15, probably in 2 years, 2010 at the age of 29. He looks very thin, and there is something wrong with Federer. I don’t think he’s in his prime anymore. I feel that he had a great 5 year run – 2003-2007, but he’s going downhill quick at the age of 26, who agrees?

Maria Sharapova Signing Autographs At Wimbledon 2010

After 3 years of trying I finally met my idol MARIA SHARAPOVA (on 21st and 22nd June 2010) and got her autograph, not once but TWICE!!! :D Totally the best moments of my entire life! She is so stunningly beautiful in real life, I’m amazed I wasn’t blinded by her beauty seriously! Oh and at 0:27 when she says “Whose pen is this?” she is talking to ME!!! :D And I replied “Mine” so I sort of had a conversation with the one and only Maria! :P Oh and no an earthquake didn’t hit London when I was filming I just seem to have not yet mastered how to hold the camera still lol. Though it’s not easy when the crowd is pushing and shoving and going mad for Maria, plus having my idol a few centimetres in front of me was just so amazing that I was probably shaking, it’s a miracle I didn’t faint to be honest. And I have a crappy camera so I’m sorry about the crap quality. :(

How many slams will Justine Henin retire with?

How many more slams will Justine Henin win before she retires?

She’s 27 and look pretty fit but for some reason I don’t see her winning more than 4 more… not even 3! She claims she’s content with her accomplishments but just want to win Wimbledon which I just don’t see happening as long as the big hard hitters like Sharapova, Venus, and Serena are on tour,,,,, they’re just too good on grass… TOO GOOD!

Maybe they will get an injury or bounced out in an early round so she doesn’t have to face them!

She has 7 now…. how many more years do you think she will play and how many more slams will capture?

She lost to the great Serena Willims in the 2010 Australian Open final and her slam finals record isn’t so hot… she’s 7-5 in grand slam finals

But yea, how many more slams for henin?

I think she can win 1 a year, maybe 2 in one of the next 5 years if Serena is injured or playing poorly and Sharapova doesn’t come back on fire and the young up in comers dont raise their game!

I feel maybe 3-4 more giving her 11 slams

Can Federer win Grand Slam title again after becoming father?

After one month rest, I notice that the way Federer play is not like the way he won 15th grand slam title.
That’s why he lost to Soderling first time and Davydenko twice.

I can feel that after becoming father, Federer look like not enough rest.
His movement is also slow and his serve is no more sharp and accurate.

Does anyone still believe that Federer can win Australia Open title, Wimbledon tile and US Open title?

Do you think is it because Federer’s performance drop or others already overtake him?

I think from 2010 onwards, Federer can start to say “bye-bye” to Grand Slam.

(I am not anti-Federer but I am supporter of him. I can’t enjoy the way he play right now, so slow…)
(Yes, he is getting older but he is still 28, consider young, not yet reach 30. Why after becoming father, not so aggresive?)

If Nadal win US Open 2009, who is the best in 2009?

I do believe the best of tennis players in 2009 will finally win Laureus World Sportsman of Year 2010 because no other sportsman show more outstanding performance like Federer or Nadal in 2009.

If Nadal win US Open 2009, then both Nadal and Federer have 2 grand slam on their hand each in 2009.
Both of them also achieve career grand slam.
(That’s say neither Nadal nor Federer win ATP Tour Final in 2009)
Then, who is the best in 2009?

Double Champion of Wimbledon and French Open
vs
Double Champion of Australia and US Open

Which double champion weigh heavier
Olympic gold won in last year cannot be considered as the best in 2009.

AU Open and US Open are 6th and 7th grand slam won by Nadal.

French Open and Wimbledon Open are history for Federer to break all time record.

Why is it that some people count Federer out and say he should retire and he’s not gonna win ever again?

What is this? Because he won “only” 1 Grand slam this year? Since when has winning a Grand slam meant that this person should retire? Just imagine Andy Roddick, if he had won one of the Grand slams this year, would you say “he’s a loser, he should retire already”. No, you would think he’s doing great. So, why Fed gets different treatment? Because he doesn’t win 3 GS/year anymore? Yeah, he’s past his prime. But he’s not out yet, come on. He won Australian open and made it to the QF’s in French O. and Wimbledon. And into the semis in US Open. And didn’t he win in Cincinnati?

And remember 2008? When he “only” won 1 GS(US open)? A lot of people were saying the same as now, but what happened next year, 2009? He made it into the final in every Grand Slam! 2 of which he won, French open and Wimby. And now Australian open this year. That’s 6 times in a row in the final (US open 2008-Australian open 2010). Just after people were counting him out…

So, how about we’ll wait a year, and if he’s still a 16-time GS winner, THEN we could start thinking he’s retirement. But so far, he hasn’t had a no-GS-win year yet. 8 years straight with winning at least 1 Grand slam/year. Which is an all time record shared with Sampras and Borg.
