Wimbledon 2010: Victor Hanescu Spits at the crowd – [Unseen Footage]

Four spectators have been arrested at Wimbledon after an incident involving Romanian player Victor Hanescu. TV pictures appeared to show Hanescu spitting towards fans after allegedly being verbally abused. He then walked off court during his third round match. Police said four youths were held under the Public Order Act after Hanescu had complained to officers. A Wimbledon spokesman said it was possible the allegation of spitting and the arrests were not related incidents. The controversy unfolded on Court 18 as Hanescu found himself 3-0 down in the fifth set against Germany’s Daniel Brands. “The initial thought was that the four people arrested were part of the same spitting incident,” said the Wimbledon official. “But the thinking now is that possibly they weren’t. That was just a random coincidence. Therefore this alleged spitting incident is directed at a different person or people who we don’t know.” A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to Court 18 following a disturbance. “Four youths were arrested. They have all been taken to a south London station under section five of the Public Order Act.” Wimbledon referee Andrew Jarrett has requested a recording of the incident to see if any further action will be taken against the player, who effectively quit the tournament by defaulting his match. “The umpire issued a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct that covers things like spitting and swearing,” added the Wimbledon official. “His report

Roger Federer vs. Robin Soderling — End of the Streak (French Open 2010)

For the second consecutive year, Robin Soderling stepped onto Philippe Chatrier court ready to rock the tennis world and rewrite the history books. 367 days after stopping Rafael Nadal’s 31-match winning streak at Roland Garros and inflicting the Majorcan’s first and indeed only defeat to date on the Paris clay, Rockin’ Robin took his best shot at Roger Federer — and knocked the champion clean off his feet. And after two-and-a-half hours of play, the Swede had brought an end to a record which may never be broken. Since losing to Gustavo Kuerten here in the third round in 2004, Federer had gone on to reach 23 consecutive Grand Slam semi-finals. And then along came Rockin’ Robin…

Wilson K Blade Rackets Help Williams Sisters Capture French Open Doubles Title and #1 Ranking

This just in from Wilson …….

Serena and Venus Williams have made tennis history once again. The sisters earned the Roland Garros doubles title by rolling over the team of Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik in two sets 6-2, 6-3, with their K Blade Team rackets. It’s their second French Open title together; part of their collection of an astonishing twelve Grand Slam women’s doubles championships.

Serena and Venus are now the #1 doubles team in the world for the first time in their careers and one of only five teams to complete a career doubles Grand Slam (2001/2003/2009 Australian Open, 1999/2010 Roland Garros, 2000/2002/2008 Wimbledon, 1999 US Open)

Additionally, they represent the only women’s doubles team to complete a career Golden Slam, adding two Olympic doubles gold medals (2000 Sydney and 2008 Beijing ) to their career Grand Slam. The sisters have claimed four Grand Slam doubles titles in a row, in addition to Stanford in 2009 and the 2010 Madrid Open. It’s safe to say they are the greatest doubles pairing since the days of Martina Hingis and Jana Novotna.

In rising to No.1 in the doubles rankings, Serena Williams joins an elite group of just six players who have been ranked at the top in both singles and doubles at the same time, alongside Martina Navratilova, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport and Kim Clijsters.

“To be #1 in the world in both singles and doubles is a great accomplishment,” Serena said after claiming the French Open doubles title. Wilson is proud to support the Williams sisters as they continue to pursuit to stay at the top.
