Nadal Wins the Atp Monte Carlo Masters Series
The Spaniard Rafael Nadal has become the first player to win the Monte Carlo Masters title for the fourth consecutive time last Sunday by beating the world No 1 tennis player the Swiss Roger Federer during their encounter on one of the most exclusive French clay courts.
Nadal who holds a 98-1 winning streak on clay is the strongest favorite to win the French Open for the fourth time in a row; the second Grand Slam of the year will be played next month. Nadal has only lost one time on clay to Roger Federer at the 2007 Hamburg final.
The 21-year-old Nadal improved his personal record against Federer to 9-6 and he remains undefeated in Monte Carlo where the Spaniard player is extremely well liked by the crowd and where he continues his reign for one more year.
On the other hand, Federer who lost his crown at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year won his first title one week ago in Estoril; he was very certain he was going to be able to defeat Nadal as without a doubt he resurrected in Monte Carlo from his dry drought , but it seems there is something still missing.
“I am coming back strong and I’m happy the way things are now,” said the Swiss, who had mononucleosis earlier this year. A few weeks ago I was still in a bit of doubt.”
Following an exchange of breaks, Federer stole Nadal’s serve in the seventh game, only for the Spaniard to break straight back with a cross-court forehand winner.
Nadal put all his energy into the 12th game and claimed the set by retrieving a volley from Federer. The Swiss who had not a good second serve, did not look stand strong enough to beat Nadal.
Despite, the Swiss set all guns blazing during the second set, attacking the net and managing to hold serve after breaking in the first game. We also saw a second set full of crisp volleys and confusing angles on Federer’s part. He broke Nadal at love in the third game, then easily held for 4-0 before Nadal rallied, but this was still not enough… “Disappointing second set,” Federer said. “After playing the right way against him and then letting him back into the match, it was disappointing. Maybe I didn’t play my best.”
Still, Nadal thinks Federer remains the best, even though he got his first title of the year until last week, he had a slow start but he thinks that is normal since no body can be 100% perfect all of the time.
Nadal’s replies to the constant bad press Roger Federer has received over the past months were “I think he doesn’t get enough credit,” Nadal said. “It is impossible to be at 100 percent all your career, he is still No. 1, the best in the world.” But something else it’s also true; Nadal is the King of Clay and his recent win confirms his supremacy on the red courts …Will there be anybody who can stand in his way to capture his fourth French Open? An answer we will have in about four weeks when the action starts at Roland Garros.

Tennis: Federer gets top seeding at Wimbledon
Reigning Wimbledon champion Roger Federer will be the top seed at the grass court grand slam despite losing the world number one spot to Rafael Nadal.
Federer was passed by Nadal in the world rankings after the Spaniard won the French Open earlier this month.
But Federer has won Wimbledon six times, including his dramatic final victory over Andy Roddick last year, so All England Club chiefs have decided to install the Swiss star as their number one seed ahead of Nadal.
Nadal, who was last year unable to defend the Wimbledon title he won in 2008 because of injury, is the second seed, while Novak Djokovic is the third seed and Britain’s Andy Murray the fourth.
“I will enjoy it from a distance” Roger Federer told German Press Agency dpa. “It falls right between Roland Garros and Wimbledon”.
Three-time Wimbledon runner-up Roddick moves up to fifth seed due to his fine record on grass despite being ranked seventh in the world.
Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt, currently ranked 26 in the world, also receives a significant rise to the 15th seed spot after beating Federer on grass in the Halle final on Sunday.
World number eight Juan Martin Del Potro will miss the tournament because of a wrist injury so Fernando Verdasco, David Ferrer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga move up a place each in the top 10.
Juan Carlos Ferrero at 14 and Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic at 25 are also seeded higher than their rankings in recognition of their achievement in reaching the Wimbledon quarter-finals last year.
Meanwhile, American Sam Querrey’s victory at Queen’s Club on Sunday has earned him the 18th seed slot, up from his world ranking of 21.
In the women’s singles, defending champion and world number one Serena Williams is the top seed, with her sister Venus Williams the number two seed.
With world number five Elena Dementieva out due to injury, Caroline Wozniacki is seeded third, Jelena Jankovic fourth and French Open champion Francesca Schiavone fifth.
Belgian duo Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin are eighth and 17th respectively, while former champion Maria Sharapova is at 16.

Himfr.com reports Federer squeezes into semis, Murray misses out
World number one Roger Federer squeezed into the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals on Thursday despite a 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3 defeat by Juan Martin del Potro and the result also knocked Andy Murray out of the tournament.
Del Potro and Federer both advanced after a three-way tie in Group A, with Murray’s elimination literally coming down to the last game after three rounds of group matches.
All three players finished the round-robin stage with two wins and identical 5-4 set records, but Murray had the lowest percentage of games won. Had Del Potro lost just one more game against Federer, Murray would have advanced at the Argentine’s expense.
In an earlier match, Murray notched up a 6-4, 6-7(4), 7-6(3) victory over Spain’s Fernando Verdasco.
“I’m going to go home, get some rest and then see what happens with the match. I definitely won’t watch too much of it. Got to try and look after my body the best that I can, if I get to play another match,” said the 22-year-old Scot.
Verdasco’s defeat ended a miserable outing for Spain at the tournament. The country was the only nation to field two representatives in the elite eight-man line-up but both Verdasco and Rafael Nadal, who was in Group B, were eliminated.
Besides, the urgent need to boost domestic consumption to combat the global downturn demands that the government lessen the people’s educational and other social welfare burdens as much and as soon as possible.
Government-led investment is undoubtedly crucial for the sound growth of the national economy next year. But policymakers should also realize that closing the deficit in public spending on education is equally important.

French Open Women’s Final Tennis Betting
This Saturday sees the final day’s action for the ladies at Roland Garros as Francesca Schiavone takes on Samantha Stosur in a surprise final. Who will emerge with their first Grand Slam victory? BetRepublic.com previews the action here.
Francesca Schiavone v Samantha Stosur Tennis Betting:
Both of these players have been the surprise packages of the tournament, with Schiavone becoming the first Italian to reach a Grand Slam semi final, and now final, in the Open era while Stosur has beaten four time winner Justine Henin and world number one Serena Williams on route to the final. PaddyPower.com have made Stosur a 2/9 favourite to claim the title ahead of 13/4 for Schiavone, mainly down to whom she has beaten and the fact that she is unbeaten against Schiavone since 2005. Will that run continue or will Schiavone become the first Italian to win a Grand Slam?
In her last three matches Stosur has had to overcome four time winner Justine Henin in round four, world number one Serena Williams in the Quarter Finals and the fourth seed, and my pre-tournament favourite for the title, Jelena Jankovic in the Semis. Stosur took three sets to get past both Henin and Serena, but she completely blew Jankovic away with a 6-1, 6-2 win to book her place in her first ever Grand Slam final. Can she continue in this form to claim the 2010 French Open title?
Schiavone has beaten seeded players in her last four matches, with three of those matches being against players seeded above her. The seventeenth seed defeated Na Li (11) in round three, Maria Kirilenko (30) in the fourth round, Caroline Wozniacki (3) in the Quarter Finals and Elena Dementieva (5) in the last four. She won the first three of those matches in straight sets with the semi final match against Dementieva going on for just one set as Dementieva retired with a calf injury after losing the set 7-6. In fact, apart from the first set of her first match, Schiavone has not dropped a set on her run to the final. Can she keep that going and make history as the first Italian to win a Grand Slam in the Open era?
These two players have met on five previous occasions and Stosur leads the scorecard 4-1. The Australian has won the last four matches and Schiavone’s only win came in 2005. Of their five previous matches two have been on clay and Stosur has won both of these in straight sets, including beating Schiavone in the first round of the 2009 French Open. However, I feel that things will be different this time around with both players in highly confident moods after their exceptional runs to this point. Who will win though? Despite Schiavone having lost just one set in six matches at Roland Garros this year I feel that Stosur has had the more difficult run in terms of matches, if not opponents, and she has had to dig deeper to get the results and this will have her better prepared for whatever may happen in the final. I don’t expect Schiavone to make it easy for her though, so my money is on a 2-1 Stosur win at odds of 16/5 with William Hill.

• Back Samantha Stosur to win the French Open by beat Francesca Schiavone 2-1 @ 16/5

Wimbledon: Roddick upset at Wimbledon by man ranked 82nd
Wimbledon: Roddick upset at Wimbledon by man ranked 82nd
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Andy Roddick’s mood was subdued, his words curt. Once again, he’s leaving Wimbledon without the champion’s trophy. Only this time, Roddick heads home much earlier than a year ago — and after being beaten by a far-less-accomplished opponent.

Roger Federer defeats Andy Roddick to win men’s singles title
This was the day when Andy Roddick’s serve was broken just the once, in the 77th game of a 77-game Wimbledon men’s final. That one break of Roddick’s delivery, after more than four and a quarter hours of play on Centre Court, was all that Roger Federer needed to take the fifth set 16-14, to become the first man to win 15 grand slams, and to regain the world No 1 ranking.
“Roger is a legend, an icon and a stud,” said Pete Sampras, who had flown in from California to sit in the front row of the Royal Box to see his 14 slams being superseded.
It would seem that winning the men’s Wimbledon singles final in straight sets, or in anything approaching a straightforward manner, has gone out of tennis fashion.
Federer’s 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14 victory meant that, going on the number of games that had been played on Centre Court, this was the longest Wimbledon final of all time, plus the longest final played at any of the four majors, and the 30-game fifth set was the longest played in a title-match at the majors.
Just a year ago we had the longest Wimbledon men’s final, if you measure a match with the clock, as Rafael Nadal required 4hr 48min to beat Federer 9-7 in the fifth set, when the stadium was so dark that the umpire should have provided night-vision goggles.
This was half an hour shorter than last year’s final, and last summer’s Nadal-Federer match remains at the top of the leaderboard of greatest finals contested on these lawns. Though Federer started slowly on Sunday, he won a sixth Wimbledon trophy, putting him just one short of Sampras’s record seven titles – something to aim for next summer.
Roddick turned in one of the sharpest performances of his tennis life, and yet when he returned to the locker room he had pink-tinged eyes, and he was holding the silver runner-up’s plate, and not the champion’s golden, pineapple-shaped trophy.
This was the third time that Roddick had lost a Wimbledon final, after defeats to Federer in 2004 and 2005, but this was the most difficult for the American to accept. “Tennis is cruel,” said Federer, who was in Roddick’s position last summer; emotionally battered. Now Federer is the happiest that tennis has seen him. This month, he and his wife Mirka will become parents for the first time.
If Federer had not broken Roddick in the 30th game of the fifth set, they might have ended up playing through the night and into this morning.
The fifth set was extraordinary. Serving at 8-8, Federer found himself at 15-40, but he produced a couple of big serves to get back to deuce, and he held.
When Roddick came out to serve at 14-15, it was the 11th time that he had got up off his chair to serve to stay in the match. Roddick had won his previous 37 service games. A forehand error from Roddick’s racket brought up match point for Federer.
Another forehand mistake from Roddick, and the match was over. Federer had served 50 aces in the match, just one fewer than Ivo Karlovic’s Wimbledon record.
Federer’s reaction to victory was to leap into the air. Roddick’s reaction, after an embrace with Federer at the net, was to fling his racket on to the grass, and to then sit down on his changeover chair, and to put his head in his hands as he waited for the prize-giving ceremony. Meanwhile, Federer put on a white tracksuit with a golden “15″ embroidered on the back.
It was not just the closeness of the fifth set that would have been so upsetting for the American, it was also the fact that he had held four points in the second-set tie-break to go two sets up, and on the fourth of those, when he had most of the court to play with, he could not keep his backhand volley inside the lines.
Sampras had jumped on a plane to watch Federer, a close friend. It was the American’s first visit to Wimbledon since he lost early in the 2002 Championships to a Swiss sub-journeyman player, George Bastl. This was not about Federer confirming his place as the greatest player to have picked up a racket and swished it at a tennis ball, as he had already done that by winning his first French Open last month. This was about the accumulation of grand slam titles, about Federer becoming the most successful player in history.
Roddick emerged wearing his baseball cap, and then started banging down his serves. Roddick led 6-2 in that second-set tie-break, so holding four set points, only to then lose six points in a row. Many other players would have faded away. Roddick did not.
Roddick’s performance was a fine one; people have played tennis of a much lower quality and won Wimbledon’s Challenge Cup.

The fashion trend of 2010 spring and summer sandals!
What will be the fashion style shoes and clothes this spring and summer? âThe fashion depends on the mood of the people.’ the director of the famous Italy brand Valentino answered in a interview.
Globally, the design style and fashion trends of clothes and shoes are closely related to the fashion capital French and Italy which are the representative of world fashion and culture. But the fashion culture derived from the people’s unconscious psychic reflection about the world. After 911, the cool colors become the fashionable in the world. Moreover, the style became dignified. And the black color of clothes and shoes become popular in America just from then on. In the 1980s when China was just carrying out the policy of reforms and open-up, the flared trousers were very popular in China. All of these could reflect that the fashion and culture is the mirror of people’s mental attitude. Besides, the economic situation of the district and the local consumption habits will also affect the fashion trends of apparel and footwear.
After the Iraq, the international political situation became stable. And the world economy developed more smoothly. So the people may be in good mood again, and will pay more attention to the quality of life and to enjoy life. Therefore, the avant-garde, bold and enthusiastic styles became very popular since 2005. The warm color has been popular these years, such pink, light green etc. As for the material, mainly are delicate silk, cotton textiles. The fashion colors of women’s shoes and clothes form a perfect match. Beige and light yellow will become the popular color for 2010 spring and summer sandals. The pointed-toe boxlouboutin shoes will be popular. As for the styles, the stiletto heels and the flat shoes will be the fashion styles at the same time! Just to meet the consumer’s different needs of both fashionable and comfortable. And the material of shoes is mainly calfskin with rubber soles. And the Crystal-heels will begin to carry on this summer.
In fact, popular and fashion style maybe not the best for you. In other words, if you walk in the street, seeing everyone wear the same style red sole shoes, do you think that will be beautiful? So in my opinion, the popular and fashion trend could just be used as a reference. Just remember that the fashion and hot style shoes and clothes might not be suitable for you. But the ones suitable for you will always be popular, just to my mind!
Make yourself the most attractive lady with the red sole shoes!

While walking around ShoWest yesterday, I came across some promotional artwork for Hannover House. On the poster they had info for their upcoming releases and it revealed the release dates for Joel Schumacher’s Twelve (June 18), Racing Dreams (May 14), The Wild Hunt (May 28), and Thru The Moebius Strip (August 6). The artwork also had posters for all the movies.
While I hated Schumacher’s Twelve when I saw it at Sundance (video review here), it’s one of those films you won’t believe is as bad as everyone tells you until you see it for yourself. Also, with the cast – it also stars Emma Roberts, 50 Cent, Ellen Barkin and Rory Culkin – you’ll probably end up seeing it. But trust me, it’s a hot mess of a movie . The only reason it sold at Sundance is the cast. If you’ve seen Gossip Girl, Twelve takes place in a similar world – super rich upper east side New Yorkers. But Gossip Girl is like a Scorsese film compared to Twelve. Hit the jump to check out the posters.
We are a spoiled bunch here in the west. You cannot throw a rock in the air without hitting a computer animator on the head. We’ve been endulging on CGI films for years now. China has finally stepped up to the plate and while they certainly don’t hit it out of the park you got to admire the fortitude and ambition of the first Chinese made full-length 3-D animation film, Thru the Moebius Strip.
Created from the imagination of French comic artist Jean Giraud [The Fifth Element, Alien, Blade Runner, Blueberry] this has been a long project and the more I see of this the more I appreciate the ambition. Putting style, advancement of the art [?] and its place in world animation aside those behind the project deserve kudos. This isn’t Pixar or Square Enix but you have to appreciate the effort.
Through the SINA.com site you can find a link to the trailer that you won’t have to use a pasword for [I felt dirty knowing that it was the same group that produces Uwe Boll movies] and plenty of design stills and conceptual pieces. I’ll save you the trouble and link to everything below. I am that kind of guy…
