ATP Tennis – Federer Advances to the Fourth Round of the Sony Ericsson Open
The 27-year-old and seeded No.2, Roger Federer advanced to the fourth round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami by beating the German Nicolas Keifer 6-4, 6-1. It was a great game for the Swiss, who had to play with strong winds and with a little bit of rain. However, despite all this difficulties, the Swiss played amazingly well and this win gives some more confidence in his game to the world No.2 and a secure place to play the fourth round of the tournament; hoping for his first title of the year, and the first Masters title in quite a while, since he won his last one in August, 2007.
At the beginning of the game, the German started in a very good shape, winning the first game of the first set, but the Swiss without problems recaptured the control of the game by breaking Keifer’s serve in two occasions and even with good plays from Keifer, Federer imposed himself with great tennis. During the first set, the Swiss was having close to 70% on first serve effectiveness while the German was having close to 50%. During the second set, Federer was without a doubt in control of the game and the victory seemed remarkably on his hands. The German lost his confidence at the end of the game, which was notable especially by his many unforced errors from which Federer took advantage off and finished the set 6-1. With that result, the game was over in favour of the Swiss, who after 70 minutes got his qualification to the next round.
The following contender of Roger Federer will be the American Taylor Dent, who after several surgeries due to back problems and years of absence, defeated the 15th seeded Tommy Robredo 7-5, 6-3 in the third round at Crandon Park in Miami. This was a surprise upset for many fans of tennis, but it is very refreshing to see this American doing such a great comeback presentation in this important U.S tournament.
For Federer, playing against Dent will be very interesting and a great experience. “It’s great to see him back playing,” said the world No.2. “He was always a dangerous player on tour because he was aggressive, offensive and kind of making the match decides on a couple of passing shots here and there. It’s going to be interesting for me to see how he plays. I actually never played him, so I can’t compare before and after injury. I’m looking forward to a good match.”
Both players are really excited for this game and hope for the best results. Federer is conscious that he needs to win this tournament to regain some points in the rankings and recapture some confidence in his game, while also accomplishing his first title of the year. Federer has won this tournament in two occasions, one in 2005 where he defeated Rafael Nadal in five sets and then in 2006 against Ljubicic where he beat him in three tie-breaks. On the other hand, winning this game would be a plus to Dent’s recovery and would give him a better position in the rankings as well. We wish the best of lucks for both players and hope for them to give us all the tennis fans a great game to watch.

Where can I find a really good Rafael Nadal poster?
Lately, I have become obsessed with Rafael Nadal. I would love to have a poster of that beautiful man on my bedroom walls. Where can I find one?
How can Roger Federer still be considered the GOAT when he is constantly being beaten by Nadal?
All the other great players such as Sampras, Laver, and Bjorn were never DOMINATED by another player in their era. And if Federer is considered to be the greatest of all time, shouldn’t Nadal also be taken into consideration since he has a winning record over Roger?
I’m just wondering why some people keep saying Nadal isn’t as dominant when you take clay out of the equation ( why would you dismiss that as irrelevant?) that’s like saying he would be even more dominant if you would take hard courts out of the equation for Federer

Roger Federer Reaches For The Stars
If there’s one tennis player today who exhibits the stuff that legends are made of, it has to be the current men’s world number one player, Roger Federer of Switzerland. Since gaining the top spot in the men’s tennis rankings in February 2004, Federer has been an immovable force and now holds the distinction of staying at number one for the third-longest time behind only Ivan Lendl and Jimmy Connors.
And Federer has done it in style. In 2004, for instance, he became the first man since 1988 to win three out of four Grand Slam events in the same year, capturing the championships at the US Open, French Open and Wimbledon. From 2003 to 2006, Federer won an astounding seven Grand Slam singles titles and was already being mentioned in the same breadth with some of the greatest tennis players of all time.
Like many of the other tennis greats, Federer took up the game early, at age eight. He dominated the junior’s circuit for several years before joining the ATP tour in 1998, but not before an impressive reign as the ITF World Junior Tennis champion. By 1999, he was good enough to be named to the Swiss Davis Cup team. He finished the year as the youngest player ever to be ranked among the ATP’s top 100.
He won his first ATP tournament in 2001, but his big accomplishment that year was when he powered the Swiss Davis Cup team to a 3-2 victory over the United States. He was the 13th-ranked player in the world by end-2001.
He won his first ATP Masters Series (AMS) final in Hamburg in 2002 as well as the Medibank International title. The highlight of that year was when he beat two former world number ones (Russians Marat Safin and Yevgeny Kafelnikov) in Davis Cup competition. Federer finished 2002 as number six in the world.
It was in 2003 when Federer started to hit his stride. He started the year by winning two tournaments in a row. In July, he also captured the Wimbledon Championships, his first Grand Slam crown. He also won the Tennis Masters Cup and led Switzerland to a semifinals appearance in David Cup action.
The year 2004 was the Year of Roger Federer as he put together one of the most dominant seasons ever seen in the open era of modern tennis. Aside from winning three of the four Grand Slam events, Federer also went home with the Tennis Masters Cup for the second straight year. He finished 2004 with a remarkable 74-6 win-loss record and was named by Tennis Magazine as its “Player of the Year.”

Weekly net post: It’s all mental, just ask Murray, Djokovic
It’s a mental game. Two players at the top of men’s tennis if they hadn’t learned it already have recently become increasingly aware of that fact: No. 3 Andy Murray of Scotland and No. 2 Novak Djokovic of Serbia.

What do you think of Rafael Nadal playing cricket for England?
I think Rafael Nadal should be selected in the England one-day team. The amount of top-spin he puts on the ball will make it very hard for batsmen to score runs off him. And with his power, he can be a useful middle order batsman. How about picking him for the Champon’s Trophy? And of course, he is still young! The only thing we don’t know is about his fielding skills. But since he works so hard, he should be able to learn quickly.
How much did Roger Federer and Pete Sampras get paid to play each other?
Roger Federer and Pete Sampras just finished a best of 3 series of tennis matches in Korea, Malaysia, and Macau.
I wonder how much they got paid. I would guess they each received 1 million dollars for the series.
Is there a sports agent, or an event promoter out there who can shed any light?
Thanks.
